On a recent birding walk, participants were discussing the differences between Western Grebes and Clarks Grebes. Soon thereafter, I caught this "pair" at the San Joaquin Marsh wildlife reserve in Irvine, CA. Good opportunity to compare the two species.

On an Audubon walk through Irvine Regional Park last Saturday morning, this young Coopers Hawk jumped to the top of the chain link fence after its bath in the bird bath at ground level. I love the post with one foot raised and the other grasping the fencing.

Like No. 1 for its simplicity and focus on the subject without too many distracting details. Suggest brightening just a bit so the snow is not so gray.

Try searching the Apple web site under support for "Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra". It clearly lists that the D500 is supported, but this is footnoted, stating "4. Nikon RAW L format only." Check your D500 settings for the image format being saved and make sure the Nikon RAW L format is selected.

You didn’t mention what platform (Windows or Mac) you’re printing from. Used to be that the default gamma for each platform was different...1.7 for Mac (darker) or 2.1(?) for Windows. The 1.7 screen gamma would be a darker image and you would therefore brighten the photo more in post. This is part of monitor calibration and might be worth checking along with other suggested factors.

I have a nearly identical shot of the family crypt in the Recoleta cemetery. Thanks for confirming my memory.

If I’m not mistaken, that is Eva Peron’s likeness on the building in Buenos Aires.

The middle character in the prior photos from Argentina is not Hillary...it’s Eva Peron. She is flanked by soccer star “Maradona” and a famous tango dancer. The entire “La Boca” neighborhood is full of art and colorful figures. After Buenos Aires, we visited Patagonia both in Argentina and in Chile. The Chilean island/province of Chiloe is a very unique combination of culture and tradition. UNESCO has declared 21 wooden churches as a world historical site. I’ve attached photos of two of these along with a picture from inside the first one. Chiloe also has a tradition related to home building. Many homes are covered in shingles, wood being the primary building material. Over the decades, families have “trademarked” specific patterns of shingles. Without their permission, that pattern can’t be used by someone else. The homes are frequently painted in bright colors. The final photo is of one of these homes. Interesting place to visit...beautifully scenic.
