Hubby, brother & I all drive sticks, and mine has hand cranked windows. For several years, mine was the only car in the lot for which my kind coworkers could still close the windows when summer thunderstorms approached while I was with a customer or in a meeting.

Food for thought, thank you! As a hobbyist, I usually choose subjects that I find attractive as more traditional photos, with limited post processing. However, I do have a fair number of "men at work" shots, often taken in less than photogenic conditions and surroundings. I see these might be more attractive as photos with the kind of extensive post processing you do, while still telling the story that prompted me to take the shot in the first place. I see some experimenting happening with this type of photo in the future.

That's why I still make a hardcopy photo album. Now the album is full of prints of photo collages of digital photos, with digital text added in place of handwriting, but I still sit down to share it with family and friends, including my very tech savvy grandniece, who seems to really enjoy it. It also forces me to tell the story in only a page or two; film was expensive and those old albums didn't have 157 snapshots of the family vacation. If they like it, and want more, then we get out the laptop with all the photos.

I have a problem! My avatar is at least 30 years old, and since I do all the shooting in my family I can't find anything newer. SO...I tried some selfies, but some old bastard keeps jumping in front of me so it's not working out, don't no what to do!😁

Sounds kinda like that old lady I keep seeing in my bathroom in the morning. My avatar is actually of me, but you gotta look close, and the wrinkles and grey hair don't show.

I also use PS Elements. Bill (Biry) here at UHH gave me this link a week or 2 ago: www.photoshopelementsandmore.com/
It's an Elements forum, and they've been very helpful!

Thanks, Bill. Looks like a good forum for me as an elements user. Happy New Year!

I keep a printed family photo album, using collages created in Photoshop Elements. Until a few days ago, I was using PSE 11. I figured it was time to update, and purchased PSE 19.

In PSE 11, the frame and mask are not shown separately from the photo in the layers panel, and when you change size or proportion of the photo, the mask and frame change without any separate action. The arrangement could always be changed from the tool options at the bottom of the edit screen, from the layers>arrange tab, and from the right click menu.

in PSE 19, the photo, mask, and frame are each shown as a separate layer, and apparently must be linked to get them to adjust simultaneously. I have trouble getting them to stay linked - they seem to unlink for any reason and no reason. In addition, I can no longer arrange photos with the arrange tool or the right click menu. The arrange tool seems to remain greyed out no matter what I do, and the right click does not offer the arrange option. I can only use the layers>arrange tab, and doing so seems really convoluted.

I'm hoping I just missed some critical process change by waiting so many years to update to the newer version, but despite hunting through the PSE help section, and some kind help from someone in the adobe community forum, I'm still frustrated by how difficult it seems to do in PSE 19 what I did so easily in PSE 11. Have any of you got any suggestions?

Aloha, Merry Christmas, the print paper that I have will not take text in the back side. The ink won't dry. Do you folks know of a glossy paper that will take text? This is for greeting cards.

I print calendars and needed 2 sided photo paper; the hedgehogs recommended Red River Paper, and I was very pleased with what I purchased from them!

I'm not sure if this is the right location for these images as I made them
using only my flatbed scanner. Just trying a little experiment. Actually, turned out better than I thought it would.
Your comments welcome.

Looks like a fun thing for me to try over the winter. Thanks for the idea!

Jerry's graphic about daylight savings reminded me of an anecdote I once heard. Could be a myth but it certainly sounds about right:

When the process of daylight savings was explained to a Native American he responded, "You white people! Only you would believe that by cutting a foot off the top of a blanket...and sewing it on to the bottom...you get a longer blanket."

Yup; that pretty much puts it into proper perspective!

My Dad used to say that about daylight savings time - not a Native American, but of German ancestry, from the Shenandoah valley.

Thanks, Tjohn! I've bookmarked the website, and started exploring the "calendar" options.

Hi folks!

I make and print a calendar for my extended family every year, and this is the 1st year I'll be using my new Canon TS9200 inkjet printer. (thanks to your real life printer advice, I'm very happy with my printer choice) I'm looking for recommendations for paper for this project. This is my 1st inkjet printer, so I'm not yet familiar with what papers are available. It's a wall calendar, so I'll need to print both sides of the paper. Of course, I'd like beautiful printing of both sides of the paper, but if I have to make some sacrifices, the "number" side of the paper doesn't have to be as high quality as the "photo" side, it just needs to look OK when printed. It's a calendar, not a fine art print, so if necessary, I can sacrifice a some quality on the "photo" side to get a better overall look. I'd like a paper that's not too flimsy, so it can hang up all year without curling or tearing. Thanks in advance for your input.

I think #2 could have been interesting if it wasn't for the fog or smoke. You have good light contrast and some interesting details. I downloaded it and played with it in B&W. It appears to be a Gryphon? Anyway, I liked it but I think of photography in terms of a piece of art not just capturing an image of what you see. Beautifully captured images can be works of art but taking that creative process into your post processing and working them there can produce beautiful, funky, cool results as well.
I think #2 could have been interesting if it wasn'... (show quote)

the fog/smoke is from taking the photo through an old screen over a rather smeary window. I was taken by the smoky look in the morning sunlight, so I didn't try to clear it in PP. The griffin is an old piece of yard art I've had for many years - l've seen it every day for all that time, but in that light "saw" it differently... wondered how folks without my emotional context might respond to it.

One of the reasons I love photography is because while you can increase your chances of a good photo by diligent training and practice, there's always an element of chance. When I'm trying for a crystal clear photo of a butterfly, or trying to learn a new technique, or just walking the dog, sometimes something just happens to show up - here are a couple - not what I would normally shoot, so I'm curious whether anyone but me finds them interesting.
