Awesome shot! Using a 50-200mm lens, shooting off a tripod and using a remote release, I didn't do nearly as well.

I took about a dozen bracketed shots using a D3100 with a 50/200 lens and remote shutter release, then cropped and tweaked the best of them. I would very much like suggestions for getting a sharper image.

The ability to see beauty in the mundane is a gift, and you've got it. Also a talent for flower arranging and photography.

"Switch to Manual" (Thanks, James R) may be the best advice I've read in UHH yet. The "free film" of digital photography coupled with all the automatic features of my DSLR seduces me to just take lots of shots and hope some are good. The effort of making a good shot happen is part of the fun and I am learning much more about my camera.

LOL. I've had my Nikon D3100 for a few months now and I'm still trying to figure out what all those buttons do. If you gotten so far as to be studying about histograms you are going great guns!

No, I don't need to worry? or No, I can't ask the question here?

Is it OK if I insert a new question here? I just read a comment from MTSHOOTER who says he has "several nice low shutter count bodies in inventory." My question is this. I recently purchased a D3100 and have been happily banging away with it. I've already taken a couple of thousand shots. Do I need to be concerned about "shutter count?" Am I wearing out my camera?

Those cute pictures of dogs where their noses seem really huge are taken with a short focal length lens and the camera very near the subject. This is an extreme example of the distortion a short camera to subject distance can cause. The "in your subjects face" factor is probably even more important.

Thanks, Mike. This was my first ever post on Uglyhedgehog so I do appreciate the support.

I apologize to anyone who feels misled. I thought this was an interesting picture because of the forced perspective from the very long lens that made the subject appear to be nestled in a shady glade when it is really sitting out in the open, and that (to someone with a little imagination) it did resemble a medieval castle.

And your point is?

This is a silo sitting in an open field, but shot through a Meade ETX90 telescope with a Nikon D3100. The distance from camera to subject was a little over a mile.
