Just announced, this is the first Nikon DSLR to have built-in GPS, but there have not been any full reviews yet. I use a Solmeta external GPS/compass unit for geotagging with my D-90. It would be nice to have it built in and it may also be time for a new, lighter DX body.
My wife's Nikon S9300 has GPS, but it's performance is poor, taking a long time or never to acquire enough satellites in areas where other GPS receivers, eg. smartphones, work fine. Some reviews of this and other Nikon GPS cameras (p6000, p510, p330) have also mentioned that problem. The compass part works OK. There have also been many negative reviews of the Nikon GPS-1A. Does anyone know whether Nikon has solved these problems in the D5300? Does it also have an electronic compass? :?:
I just bought one to use as a walkaround lens on my D90 and am happy with it so far. It seems to work as well as my Nikon 16-80mm. My Sigma 50-500 is overkill in most applications and is quite big and heavy. Both of these Sigma telephoto zoom lenses have zoom rings that operate in the opposite direction of Nikon and Sigma 8-16. Otherwise, they are great.
