Does anyone have any experience with Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM lens? I would appreciate your feedback, as I am considering a purchase?

Many thanks in advance,
Jim

I have this Sigma lens. I purchased it when my 18-200 Nikon lens had to go for repair and I needed something in a hurry. It is heavier than the Nikon and has farther reach but after using it for a while I went back to the Nikon lens because of results with type of photos I was getting. The results with the Sigma seemed softer and had less contrast.

Since this time I have changed some of my ideas regarding lenses because I may buy full frame camera next time.

Sheila, thank you for your so much for sharing your experience with the Sigma lens, I am shooting with a Sony A57 and not happy with the Sony 75-300.

I have on on my canon 50D and love it. Have not noticed any softness but then I am not a pro. One fault is that the lens will move on it's own if held pointing downwards.

I use one on my D7000 and love it for a walk around lens. Love the range, not too heavy for me and use this lens probably more than any other I own. NOT really a macro though.

f6.3 is too slow. I would not buy it.

Thank you wISOr, I thought it may be a good walk around piece of glass. Wish I had a place to rent one for the day. Thanks again.

I bought this lens for my DX camera (D-7000). I am very satisfied with it. Great for quick shots when I don't use a tripod and need fast composure. If I do need a tripod and want very sharp photos, I use my D-700 with FX lenses. But this lens offers a lot for a super zoom.

I use the Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro with excellent results. I would think the Sigma performance should be very similar although my lens has no internal motor.

Thank you authorizeduser, I was looking at that lens also 18-200, not sure which one would be the best. Thanks again for your feedback. Have a great day.

I have one these and the only thing that is disconcerting is that use of the term Macro is not quite correct. It is a 1:2.9 ratio so is really a close up lens.
Other than the above it is a great lens.

Great walk around lens at a good price. Nice for travel because you don't have the hassle of changing lenses and carrying a large bag. Try one if you can to see if the
"macro" position gets close enough for you.
