Sounds good nikonlad, I like to be able to zoom and at the same time shoot close if needed, sounds like this is headed in the right direction.

have a great day :-)

I bought one for my D5200 from Beach Camera which was much less than other places I looked. I have had great results so far and use it as my carry around lens. Increasing the f-stop at either end seems to control softness.

Hello pokeyid, well it seems to be getting a fairly good response from the UHH's so far, thanks for getting back to me.

HAVE A GREAT DAY...

Thank you wISOr, I thought it may be a good walk around piece of glass. Wish I had a place to rent one for the day. Thanks again.

I found a place advertising on line that does rentals anywhere in the country. They ship it to you in advance of your rental period, and then you ship it back at the end - pre-paid, if I remember right. I can't remember the name, but I found them just googling camera rentals or something.

Could the name of the site be Lensprotogo.com?

Hi Sheila, don't know I will have to check it out, but with all the positive feed back on the lens I am likely to buy.

Thanks a MILLION,
Jim

I just bought one to use as a walkaround lens on my D90 and am happy with it so far. It seems to work as well as my Nikon 16-80mm. My Sigma 50-500 is overkill in most applications and is quite big and heavy. Both of these Sigma telephoto zoom lenses have zoom rings that operate in the opposite direction of Nikon and Sigma 8-16. Otherwise, they are great.

I have the newer Nikon 18-200 VR II (it does not suffer lens creep like the first version of this lens). I tried the Sigma but thought it really was a little softer. I would really suggest you try both on your camera before pulling the trigger. For my money, the Nikon simply took sharper pictures.

Does anyone have any experience with Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO HSM lens? I would appreciate your feedback, as I am considering a purchase?

Many thanks in advance,
Jim

I heard this lens is discontinued and replaced by the 18-200 mm.
The 18 - 250 seemed to have a good reputation. It was going to be my next purchase to use as a walk around GP lens. I am not considering the 18-200.

I have one on my D90 for a walk around lens as well. Love it. I also use a Kenco 1.4 telextender quite a lot of time. No problem there. Have not had a lens creep that some people have written about. Replaced my Nikkor 70-300 that my wife decided to appropriate. I have a battery pack on the D90 also and the whole thing is not too heavy for this old man. Also I use a wrist strap instead of the neck strap that I also carry in the back pack for monopod use.

The new 18-250 MACRO is definitely available. Here is a review:

There was an earlier version of the 18-250, now discontinued, that was bigger and heavier than the current model and didn't have the "MACRO" feature. If you see one at a much lower price sans MACRO, it is probably the leftover old model. :)

Thanks Ol' Frank, sounds like this glass should work well, I appreciate your input.
