Ditto that for me too brother;
if what you got works for you then you are good to go.
Why jump into a DSLR if you do not need one.
You previously had an SLR, as I did too.
But !
Since there is a Universe full of all kinds of camera's, there is something for everyone and it reads like you have already found your nitch in the universe.
However, since you posted this question to the forum, are you not 'kinda curious' and fishing around with the idea of trying out a DSLR ???????
My psychic powers have diminished and left me so I cannot help you with that, but, hey, after all the great feed back from the hoggers here, aren't you just a 'little bit curious' enough to just 'maybe' borrow one out and just play around with one and see if 'maybe' it could expand your photography experiences.
Just thinking !!!!

You already know that answer.
Especially if you previously owned a SLR.

Excellent choice and decent price too.
I agree with the last reply that the icing on top would be to replace the spinner hard drive with an SSD. 500 Gig'ers are now around 100 bucks. Just clone it over.
Enjoy the new toy,

Hey Ted;
just to follow up on what I noted earlier:
On this same daily email, Linda from Maine posted some pictures she edited to B&W using a Chromebook.
This was in reply to that topic, but I wanted to point out, if you know about Chromebooks, they are little brother, minimal laptops.
They do work good and she has clearly shown this.
They fall into the size range you are looking for.

Excellent point
Toshiba's are some of the best.
I have bought three Portege's from the reseller store. My current GF has one now and the other two are still in use after 6 years.
You can't go wrong with them. Thanks for bringing this up.

Ted;
depending on your budget or what you want to spend. Be careful. People will oversell you at a higher cost for something more than what you really need.
You said you will be doing mostly viewing and minimal post processing.
So in this case you do not really need a high end i7 or Apple. Unless you just want an Apple, even then the used ones are pricey.
I have both myself.
When buying a computer and especially from a store where they have a lot of preloaded 'sludge' a.k.a programs installed, which for the most part are useless. This slows the puter down regardless. When it starts up it loads all that crap up and eats up the puters ram and resources.
In this case you can uninstall most of it and also uncheck it in the start up deck and task manager, this is for a Windows system. And it will run much better, much much better.
Me ? I have only bought the iPad Pro brand new because I wanted too. My Windows based laptops and desktops I always buy refurbished.
NEVER paid more than $350. they have Windows 10 Pro, 8 gig ram, I loaded Windows on one myself and the other came with Win 10 base with no added crap. They run GREAT.
I just added what I wanted from there.
You have options.
Again, please do not let someone over sell you.

I had to reply on this;
it reminds me of my stay in 1981/ 82 in Midland-Odessa Texas.
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a new motorcycle and went there to work. The blowing sand and dust destroyed my chain and sprockets every 3 months. A DSL or any camera would be wrecked if used outside during the blowing wind and sand.
Then I went to Florida and the sand there did the same, not as bad because no blowing wind, but still, the sand got in EVERYTHING.
I believe camera users know how to deal with these things today, but it just reminded me of my past adventures. Yes it is not photo related but in a way, it is.

Also, depending on what you want to shoot, a cheap Point'n shoot is a good option. I have gone this myself. Now that I have a DSL camera I too will make that same call when hitting the coast again.
I saw this on another post reply and this is good advise too.
enjoy.

Port A is still very nice. if you ever get a chance go to Corpus and then hit the beach from there. That's where the dunes, birds etc. preserves are at.
Very lovely. You have to drive out of CC and just south you'll Mustang beach, just follow the road and it goes the national seashore preserve. Birders come from all over for photo and viewing.
Galveston is a quick from the plex, we can have breakfast at home and lunch on the beach the same day thanks to the Texas highway system.

Hi Neighbor,
bruce here in Grand Prairie, a native texas.
You have already received all the feedback you need.
After countless trips to the coast, and yes I lived in Florida too, use the brush and air to remove any sand on the lens. If you just start wiping you could scratch it.
As one of the other members mentioned, please use the lens wipes too.
If you recall, after being on the coast there is a film that gets on the wind shield of your car, actually all over everything including the lenses too.
I have used a small towel to cover the camera if lens changing is needed. I kept my camera and phone covered while not using. Keep it out of the direct sun unless you want it melted.
While sand ? well if you go to Corpus Christi, from there going south, it is very white sandy beaches and water is beautiful. This is where that Caribbean look kicks in with the lovely blues and of the ocean.
Please enjoy the trip and let me know how it goes.

Let's hope we can all pull together.
Anyway, thanks for the reply, it's 102 here in Texas and I am going out to wash my car.

I am kinda leaning that way too guys and gals but not knowing anymore than what the original question was I left this open for discussion and answers from the new member.
Let me add to my first reply and this is WHY I wrote a lengthy post is that:
If the new member is really new, And I mean NEW to photography, we want to help to make sure he/she does not get scared off and discouraged away and loose interest because of some of the over complexities that would OR could appear overwhelming
