Not necessarily bad advise as much as just being aware of the upsides and downsides of such a move. Having a lense that can resolve 36mp on a full frame means it should be able to resolve an image for an APS-C of 24mp. The better Canon and Nikon lenses can resolve a 36mp image on a full frame and will be able to also resolve the 24mp for the APS-C. This just means if one wants to start with APS-C with full frame lenses and work up to a full frame, they must start out with the very best full frame lenses for proper resolution at the APS-C level.

Thanks. I always thought that using a FF lens lens on a crop sensor would sort of 'trim the crust off' a lesser lens and leave the 'sweet spot' making the premium for a superior lens unnecesary. I stand corrected.

I'm not sure I follow you. The a7Rii is reduced to $2400 until Nov. 3rd, Sony says. Did you see the a7Riii for that? That would be something -- and I doubt Sony could keep up with the demand if that were the price.

Sony might play with the price of the a7Riii a bit. A few years ago when it released the a77ii, the price was all over the place for a little while (I picked it up for $898) before it settled at $1198, where it remains today.

Sorry. I misread the quotation. The $2400 was for the A7Rii.

Yes, a Sony 24-105mm f/4 G sounds nice -- except on the wallet. And now a 400mm f/2.8 prime that should appease the haters who say Sony doesn't offer enough lenses. I think these lenses pretty much fill any gaps in the native Sony e-mount lens lineup. Of course, Sigma and Samyang are pumping out FE lenses like clockwork, too.

The a7Rii is a fine camera, and until today's announcement I was torn between it (and an a6k body for sports) or the a-mount a99ii. I do mostly landscapes, astro, and candids, but I also take a fair amount of pics of my active kids. For me, the a7Riii seems to be the answer.

Price for new is down to $2400 now. In the past, Sony has dropped the price of the older model only for a couple of weeks after a new launch and then pushes the price back up a couple of hundred bucks.

The bigger the sensor, the less the imaging problems. A 4/3rds lense can resolve 20 megapixels on a quarter of a full frame sensor. If that lense had an image circle that could cover a full frame sensor, it could resolve an 80 megapixel image! That is why most full frame lenses do poorly on small sensors like 4/3rds; a full frame lense cannot resolve the image sufficiently over the aperture range - even the Canon "L" series. This is why all but the best full frame Olympus lenses have one or two apertures at one or two focal points. Even the best full frame zooms show limitations above f16 and usually at both ends of the zoom. The primes suffer the least because of their simpler designs and therefore have wider aperture ranges. On your A6000 the lenses will do a little better than on a 4/3rds camera.

Thanks again, wdross.
As I read your reply above I think I follow what you are saying. However, what you are saying would seem to go against the advice I often see here to buy FF lenses for crop cameras. The logic being that if/when you graduate to FF sensor you won't have to replace your lenses. Based on what you are saying, this would be bad advice in terms of the crop camera usability. Have I interpreted you correctly?

C'mon, you can do better than that. How about:
1. Rocket blower built into armpit.
2. Microfiber lens cleaning cuffs.
3. Drop down monopod built into sleeve.
4. PV battery charger panel on back
6. Extending rain peak in hood.
Heck, I'd settle for a lens cap holder!!!

I doubt that the 'new' version will continue to be free. Still, good to see it get a new lease on life.

Sounds good. Still, I don't think I will be trading up from my A7Rii anytime soon.

Also announced was a new FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS zoom lens. Now that really interests me.

Found this 'Travel' sweatshirt on The Grommet. It comes with in built inflatable neck pillow, eye shades, gloves, passport pocket and a whole host of other travel conveniences. Got me thinking. What in-built conveniences would you like to see on the ideal 'Photographers' sweatshirt. Is there anything out there already for photographers?

Sigma has just announced a new 16mm F1.4 lens for the small camera enthusiasts, it will be available soon in Sony E-Mount (Sorry, NOT FE) and M4/3's. Not many choices out there in a super fast wide angle yet so this should add some good functionality for those users looking to get fast and wide.

Very interesting. Could be become an astro favorite. I am a Sony fan but I am very annoyed that Sony hasn't come out with a new APS-C lens in ages.

Cranberry harvest is always a traffic stopper on Cape Cod this time of year. These pics are of a 'wet' harvest down the road from my house last weekend. The ripe cranberry bogs are flooded with a couple of feet of water. Then the bushes are beaten with a ride on beater to knock the berries off the bushes. Within a day or two the berries float to the top of the water . The workers coral the floating berries with long floating booms and draw a sump where they are sucked up into a separator and discharged into trucks. They filled several trucks in a couple of hours on Saturday. 'Wet' harvest cranberries are processed into juice, sauces and jellies. Dry harvest berries are sold as fresh berries.

Comments, feedback, or your own reminiscences always appreciated.

To use an Olympus full frame lense on one of the new Olympus digitals will require an MF-1 adapter. You will only be able to shoot in manual and aperture modes. Since the full frame Olympus lenses were not designed for the resolution required for the smaller sensors, almost all of their cheaper full frame lenses have very limited use. But there are some of their better lenses that work fantastic. I use my 90mm macro (180mm, f2, lifesize equivalent) and love using it. To get a better idea of what would work and how well it will work, go to the Olympusamerica.com, cameras, accessories, lense accessories, and click on the MF-1. At the bottom there are six info bullets. On the last bullet, click on the "Click HERE". This will provide you information on using the full frame lenses on a 4/3rds digital.

Thanks wdross. Great information. Per Olympus recommendations, the F stop range for my lenses would be quite limited which is a bit disappointing. I wonder if the same limitations apply to using them on my A6000. Haven't noticed ay issues before, but I'll experiment for the hell of it.
