Hmmm! Sounds a bit scary. I'd venture to guess that a piece of pantyhose held over the hose (pun not intended - it just sneaked in there!) with tape or an elastic band might work, too. Right now, I'm not that desperate, but who knows how nuts this is going to make me!

I hear you. It drove me nuts, and since I've always been a "fix it yourself" kind of person, I figured I'd try. The trick is to NOT let the vac hose seal against the front of the camera where it could create enough suction to damage the mirror, or other delicate parts. I guess its kind of like a reverse rocket blower. If that's not enough suction, bail and let a professional clean it. JMHO

I was sure I could find a stitching error .... but looked for about 3 minutes and couldn't find one.
But I did find focus irregularities.
People 4 feet away in focus, people 20 feet away out of focus, people 30 feet away in focus etc, quite a bit of that throughout the image.
Lets see who can find the first stitching error?

I saw the focus issues as well. Quite a bit of odd pixelization too. I was CERTAIN I'd find stitching issues in the angled handrails or in the safety screen, but I didn't see anything. Overall quality of the zoomed image wasn't perfect, but darn good in my opinion considering the amount of zooming you can do.

Hi all,
I need some help from my fellow Hogs & Hoggettes. It seems to me there was a topic along these same lines several months ago. I did do a search and could not find it, though.

First off - the camera in question is my Nikon D5200. The last time this happened to me, I literally just blew it away. This time, that technique is NOT working. I am not even sure where the specks are! They first appeared about a week ago. I did clean the outside of the viewfinder. Specks are still there!

What I seem to have are 2 specks of dirt visible in my viewfinder. They do not move and they are NOT visible in my images. They remain in the exact same spots no matter which lens I put on the camera or how much gentle wiggling and jiggling I do.

I guess I really have 3 questions/concerns here:
1. How can I tell if they are in the viewfinder and not elsewhere in the camera's innards?
2. How do I get rid of them?
3. Do I really NEED to get rid of them if they are not appearing in my images?

Many thanks for any help anyone can give. This is just annoying the you know what out of me.

Oh I know I'll catch hell for this one, but it worked for me when I had dust inside the viewfinder. I took the hose on my house vac, and let air slip between my fingers so it wouldn't grab full suction. Then with the lens off I GENTLY sucked the inside of the camera out and surprisingly it cleaned the viewfinder nicely. I'd be VERY careful though as you don't want to make a solid seal where it could damage anything internal. Be careful, but it did seem to work for me.

I've wondered about that too. I'm in a couple from Dodgers and Angels games. But what was used? It may actually be many exposures stitched, but how with no blurs of moving people. Looks like CIA stuff. LOL

It looks like the gigapan system (for about a grand) comes with software to do the stitching. I don't think I'll spring a grand for the limited use I'd give that, but nonetheless, its a cool system. I Looked pretty close and I didn't see any really strange artifacts, so someone probably spend a lot of time in post fixing those issues. No headless hockey fans that I could find anyhow.

Ohhhhhhhhh so its a machine independent to the camera. Okay, I understand. I had no idea. Learn something new everyday I guess.

I Came across this today while surfing the web. What kind of equipment could have been used to make this image? I'm in awe.

It would have been a great "Where's Waldo" search too.

I've been thinking the same thing. It doesn't make sense that it would copy only the jpg files and not the others. I just don't know how I can SEE them on the computer.

Its somewhere under Folder Options. (if I remember correctly) Navigate to the folder you THINK the files are in, then click on "Organize" on the top toolbar. You should then see "Folder and Search Options" I think one of the tick boxes shows or hides registered files. Man, I'm doing a lot of thinking here. I hope I'm not sending you on a wild goose chase.

I really hate being a newbie

I just downloaded some pics from my new D7100. I took some in jpg format and then decided to take some in raw to practice using that post pic processing.

I downloaded them through the SD card to my computer and didn't bother looking to see that ALL the pictures were there. I promptly then deleted my SD card of the pics (as I was taught) and went back to look at the pictures on my computer. It was then that I noticed that I don't see ANY of the pics that I took in the RAW format. I've searched for the extension .nef but nothing shows up.

If I lost the pictures, I'll be quite sad and a BIG lesson learned but it does seem strange that I've downloaded all the pics and only the jpg came over.

Am I missing something here?

Is it possible that you really DID copy the NEF files over, but you're not seeing them because you are only showing registered files? If the NEF files aren't "Registered" to an active program, they could in fact be hidden from view. Just a thought..
