Went to Watson Lake last night at sunset and captured this image. Watson Lake is located in Prescott, AZ and is surrounded with Granite Boulders making it a unique setting for boating and photography.

I'm so excited! This picture of mine was selected to be in the Maricopa County Regional Parks 2015 Calendar for the Month of February. It will be the main picture for the month. I've only entered a couple of photography contests so am thrilled that one of my photos got selected!

Congratulations. Very nice composition and depth of field. I can see why your image was chosen.

Good suggestions all, and good discussion too. The air show is now history, and I got at least a few good pictures, which I posted in this topic. When I get a chance, I'll post some of the better ones in the main photo section. It was lots of fun, though a bit hotter than I would have preferred!

Would you mind telling us where you ended up shooting your pictures of the air show from?

Would love to know some good shooting locations and if you know the practice schedule. Looking forward to hearing back.

Blue Angels arrive and practice on 10/9 from 12-5. Practice again on 10/10 from 3-4. There will be other aircraft participating and they will be practicing also. I like the Marina Green best for shooting as there is very good parking nearby. You can also shoot from Pier 39, however, parking is expensive in the garage. Other parking is hard to find by Pier 39. In any event, it's best to arrive no later than 9-10 AM as it will be very crowded and the public parking at the Marina will fill up fast. It's free for the practice days, however, there will be a $60.00 ticket charge on Saturday and Sunday. Check the internet for the full fleet week schedule including the Blue Angels schedule.
I wish I could come as I love the show. Enjoy yourself if you go and share any photos you get.

Ok! I'm the original poster, so here is my experience from yesterday! Yes, I did see a few people using tripods, but I wonder what they got. There were tons of people there, and a BIG problem was that many of them had unbrellas which were always in the way. They should make the umbrella carriers stand in the back! I took my Tamron150-600, but it was too much, and I mostly just lugged it around in its case. Very heavy! Good lens, but not needed for that event. I used the Tamron 16-300, and it worked well. Most shots were from around 200-300mm, hand held. I tried some slower shutter speeds on the V-22's. Wonderful propeller arcs--- wonderful shaky airplanes, too! Finding the right combination is a trick! Using a hot shoe reflex finder helped on those head-on passes. I'll try to post some pictures later, but maybe one this time.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to some shots of the Blue Angels. Keep up the good work.

I'll be going to an air show Sunday, where among other things, the Blue Angels will be flying. I'll take my Tamron 150-600. The question is, should I lug around a tripod and gemble head, or would it be better to just try for hand held?

I just posted in the "Photo Gallery" section of this site for you to see a few of the images of the Blue Angels I mentioned in my reply to you. These were all shot without a tripod or monopod.

I shot these at various times from the San Francisco Marina Green during fleet week. I'm posting these for dlmorris to see whose going to go to an air show and posted in the Main section of this site under "Air show question".

I shot the Blue Angles from the San Francisco Marina Green for 5 years during Fleet Week and never used a tripod or monopod. You'll want to have freedom of movement and be able to move around. Also, you'll want to try to pick them up as far away as you can see them and lock the focus in and track them as they approach. When they get where you want them, start shooting and try to keep them in the viewfinder. (This can be a challenge) They come in low and fast, some in singles, some in twos, and some in fours. They usually had six planes and flew in various formations.
Unfortunately, the government cut way back on their performances. I was surprised to learn that you could still see them perform. Have a great time and I hope you get some great shots. I'll try to post a few in the other section of this site for you to see.

This is an image of Watson Lake in Prescott, AZ during the latest monsoon season at sunset. The reflection of the black clouds over the lake turned the color of the water black and the sun light lit up the granite boulders surrounding the lake making this an interesting image. This is an HDR image.

Thank you Morning Star. I'm afraid we do not have scanning capabilities. We were thinking of taking them to Costco as they have the facilities to scan the slides to a DVD. However, they do not offer titling services.

I have a few hundred slides that I would like to convert into a DVD. I would like to add titles between the different groups of slides. Does anybody have an ideal how to do that?

Very nice. Looks very much like some of the sunsets we get here in Prescott, AZ during the monsoon season that just ended.
