I have a few hundred slides that I would like to convert into a DVD. I would like to add titles between the different groups of slides. Does anybody have an ideal how to do that?

Make a new folder to put slides and titles in.
Put the slides in the order you want them, then scan them in and number them so they stay in order. Skip a number where you want the titles, and store in folder.
In your photo editing program, starting with a blank document, make the "slides" with titles the way you want, in same size and same format as the slides. Give them the numbers you skipped between the slides.
Make two more: One for opening, one for "That's all, folks!"
Add to folder.
Double check that they are in the order you want.
Now you can use whatever slideshow program you want to create the slideshow and write it to a DVD.
It's been a long time since I made a slideshow, but I believe I used either Photoshop Elements, or Photoshop Premiere Elements to do that.

Thank you Morning Star. I'm afraid we do not have scanning capabilities. We were thinking of taking them to Costco as they have the facilities to scan the slides to a DVD. However, they do not offer titling services.

Take your slides to someplace other than Costco that DOES have titling services!

I did this about 3 years ago in creating a show for my sister's 50th BD. I used a service to scan about 1500 slides. Total cost was @$700 but to me it was well worth it. I now have a lifetime of images literally at my fingertips (they even automatically uploaded the images to Picasa). The service I used was digmypics.com. They're located in Arizona. They're not as cheap as some of the other services but some of those will send your slides to India. That really shouldn't be a problem IMO but something to be aware of.

I was extremely satisfied. My slides were in a series of Kodak carousels. I numbered each slide in each carousel so I would know exactly where to return them. They scanned them in that order. Whole process took less than 3 weeks. They sent DVDs in both JPEG and TIFF format (as well as uploading to Picasa as mentioned above) and, and of course, the original slides. Let me know if you need more info - I can dig up prev emails.

If you have the time you might want to look at purchasing a scanner to do the job yourself. I have included a link from Adorama for just one of the many they offer. That way you have control over what you are doing and can adust your files and pictures to the outcome you desire.

You can purchase a slide scanner/copier on line for about $60. Scan them and put the files in a folder. Usually they produce a 5mb file.

The more I use Microsoft Power Point the more uses I figure to do with it. If you are running a Windows machine you probably already PP on your machine.

Within PP there is a command to make a slide show of whatever you select, be it 2 slides or 200. Again, from within PP you can change slide positions, add a slide position anywhere you want and add any text you want.

I find it very flexable, even adjusting brightness and contrast of photos.
