A couple of respondents have mentioned using view cameras in lieu of a T/S lens. I was wondering if a bellows attachment like the OM Auto mono-rail bellows could be used in the same way. They are usually described as being for macro use. They are pretty cumbersome for walking around use, but I'm just wondering if they would work. I don't see any sideways or up down adjustment on them. There is an example here.

There seems to be many references about cameras, batteries and laptops on UHH. I decided to go to the source. I'm flying to Europe in August.
Safe travels!

In August? Better check back before you leave. I bet the policies change at least three times between now and next August.

Nice shots of a great piece of architecture!! I'm surprised I never heard of it before. Thanks for posting.

I am curious about UHH members, if they own, rent or use tilt and shift lenses. And if you do, what kind of photography do you use them for?

I have recently acquired an OM to Sony E mount shift adapter. Using it with my old Zuiko lenses. I wanted it to try with streetscape type shots to square up geometric / architectural type details. Still getting used to it. Verdict is still out.

Not a single note on that list is true!

Maybe not - but it is pretty close to my experience.

Ask about a Sigma or Tamron. They respond with Nikon. Asked about which UV filters are best. They respond with a lecture about not using filters. What is wrong with the comprehension of many posters on this site? Why is it that they feel like telling a poster what question to ask? This is pervasive on this site. I am only interested in direct and relevant answers if you choose to respond at all. Please avoid paternalistic replies,“leave if you don’t like it” or other idiotic responses.

Free advice is worth what you paid for it!!

No steep learning curve for us who "grew up" with large format (bellows type) cameras..

I didn't quite'grow up' with a large format bellows camera, but I did have an inherited one for awhile. That was a really steep learning curve. I couldn't even figure out which end to point at the subject. I ended up rolling back down the hill and sold it to KEH for enough to buy my first digital camera.

hi hogs

i've been using and loving my sony a7r2 for a few months and have been finally getting down to the brass tacks about learning all the ins and outs. I'm going to japan and want to be proficient with my camera.
today i was watching lots of instructional videos and using lots of settings and controls on the camera. all of a sudden, it LOCKED UP. i can turn it on but the screen is blank (with the M letter showing). can't press the shutter or use menu settings. I've read to take the battery out for a day and see what happens.

anyone have any experience with this?? so frustrated!

thanks
hi hogs br br i've been using and loving my sony... (show quote)

I consulted David Busch's book to see if there was anything that would cover your situation. I didn't find anything, but I did learn that there is a second, inaccessible battery built-in that provides power to maintain settings etc. I have no idea if that is connected to your problem. However, Sony's are intended to be charged in-camera by USB connection. If you have been using an external charger in lieu of USB connection for a long time, it is possible that the internal battery has been depleted. This is just speculation, I have no idea if it will work, but try turning it off and leaving it on a USB connection for a good long charge. Good luck.

My 2017 property tax notice arrived in the mail yesterday. It just happens that the property taxes are about the same as the price of a Nikon
D850.
So, should I pay the taxes; or order an 850?
The hit to the bank account will be the same; and my wife won't see the difference.

Go for the 850. Your wife won't know, until the town sells your house out from under you in a tax sale.

I believe 'Environmental Portraits' might be one term you could use.

T/S lenses are used for many things. The tilt is used for architecture. The shift is used to play with DOF. Not only how deep, but where it runs in the image. The plane of field can be made to go diagonally or from bottom to top. I have also wanted one for some time.

Shouldn't that be the other way around? Shift (up and down) for persepective control /architecture and tilt (rotate) for DOF control (and minaturization effect)?

I am a lucky guy ,

I was offer by my beautiful, smart, girlfriend a choice.

If I had to chose which camera would have had chosen, a 6000 or a 6500 Sony with two lenses ? the cameras I have now will stay with me . .

Help me on this one I know that a few have this type camera here

Thank you

Sorry I forgot to add , as usual, loll Whats the pros and cons about these two ?

If the 'two lenses' are the 16-50 and the 55-210, I would go for the 18-105 F4.0 OSS G instead and then buy the best A6xxx you can get with the balance of your budget.

I think Trump made the right call here. Just imagine the embarrassing situation of these people in a room together, and neither side believing what the other side is saying.

Yes, it would have been an embarrasing moment to have esteemed Noble Lauriats meeting with a c*****e c****e denying, creationist, flat earthist like Komrad Trump.

My very limited experience is that there is a pretty steep learning curve to using a T/S lens. I think it is definitely a case where you should consider renting before buying and do it well before any big trip. If you only want the perspective control you can get used Nikor Shift lenses (no tilt) on eBay for less than $400.
