When placing a Sony a6000 on a tripod and having it the set for video mode is there some way to remotely start and stop the recording? I have the app on my cell phone but I see an option to control video I can only control still shots. I also have an IR remote but it also only control still shots.

According to the specs for the Sony remote app, remote movie shooting is not available on the A6000. It is available on the A6300, A6500 and the 2nd generation A7's

I seriously considered the K-1 when I decided I wanted to move to a FF camera. The specs seemed to be exceptional value for money, and good reasonably priced lenses. I was curious as to why there was so little coverage of the K-1 here on UHH. I posted here asking for advise and user experiences. The responses were all highly positive and several referred me to various Pentax forums. Unfortunately, the forums seemed to be awash in doom and gloom about the future of Pentax. They all loved their K-1's but were afraid that Pentax wouldn't be around for long. Caused me to pause. What a pity. Sentiments like that end up becoming self fulfilling prophesies.
I ended up saving a bit longer and going for the A7Rii. No regrets, but I am sure I would have been perfectly happy with the K-1.

Shopping Black Friday sales, I have found these two lens are basically the same price. I'd like to have one for my Sony a6000 and not sure which would be best. I've researched, but would like a personal opinion from someone who owns one or the other. I mostly shoot grandchildren(not literally)...twin 3 yr old girls and a baby boy on the way for Christmas. I also will use it for travel and possibly beach sunsets. Any suggestions?

I'd also like to say I'm very grateful for all I've learned from this website. I check it daily and though I don't always contribute, I learn so much from all you knowledgeable people who do.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!!!

Check to see if the Sigma will work with 'eye focus' on the Sony A6000. This is a great feature on the A6000 but it doesn't work with all 3rd party auto or adapted lenses. 'Eye focus' fine focuses on the subjects eye and is great for portraits, specially kids who can't sit still. Eye focus is hard to find in the menus and you have to assign it to one of the buttons to use it. Don't confuse eye focus with 'eye start' which is a focus setting that starts to focus as soon as it detects an eye being held up to the EVF.

Very nice picture. I especially like the rays from the sun.
I'm a little mystified with the blue sky below the pier and the amber colors above the pier.

Life is like a camera
focus on what's important.
Capture the good times
Develop from the negatives
and if things don't work out.......
Just take another shot.

Happy Thanksgiving all. Have good times today, and capture some.

closing down the lens by one stop would give a similar depth of field, its not a perfect match if you look at a dof calculator, but close enough for most people.

By closing down the aperture by 1 stop you are recording 1 stop less light the image would be 1 stop under exposed
I chose to raise the ISO by 1 stop to compensate the alternative would be to half the shutter speed (1 stop difference).

if the shutter speed was 1/60th then 1/30th would be needed to keep the same exposure. This particular scene it doesn't particularly matter about the shutter speed.

with micro 4/3rds as the original camera at 18mm you would want 36mm on full frame and close down 2 stops and raise the iso 2 stops.

If you flip this on its head trying to match a full frame photo with a crop sensor or m43 camera. The surprising thing is you need a better lens for the smaller format. With 1 and 2 stops difference for each format.

You are also enlarging the negative more which is going to reveal more of a lenses defects e.g chromatic aberration.
It probably is fair to say the larger the format of the negative the less demanding is the Image Quality required from the system, big is beautiful

Heavy not so easy to take to a location but perhaps why people still love the medium and larger formats even 35mm film.

Thanks Blackest. Thanks also Apaflo. Although I didn't really learn anything new from your (apaflo) original response to the OP's question, I did learn something from the 'off topic' responses (including yours) and I am grateful.

Bebulamar- Why stop the lens down one stop? To match DoF?
Blackest - Why raise the ISO 1 stop?

Good article Jerry. The story gives an interesting perspective. I always looked on those iron lungs as a living coffin, but the unfortunate victims see them as a haven.
The article should be required reading for any anti-vaccine parents.

Nice shots. However there was a thread on here recently about the lighting of the Eiffel Tower being a copyrighted artwork. Photographing the lighting without permission is considered a breach or copyright.
Don't worry I won't report you.
