When placing a Sony a6000 on a tripod and having it the set for video mode is there some way to remotely start and stop the recording? I have the app on my cell phone but I see an option to control video I can only control still shots. I also have an IR remote but it also only control still shots.

According to the specs for the Sony remote app, remote movie shooting is not available on the A6000. It is available on the A6300, A6500 and the 2nd generation A7's

I have successfully used the Video remote start stop function on my A6000. I must be using a different video format. All I know is it worked from day one and when showing them on a 36 inch HD TV they look great to all who see them.

I have a off brand wireless remote that works on my a65 and a99ll but not on my a6000. The Sony accessories site shows a wired and wireless remote available for the a6000. https://www.sony.net/Products/diacc/systemchart/en-gb/index.html#ilc. You may wish to contact your local camera store for a real Sony remote. It also kind of sucks that the Sony APS for remote cel phone use doesn't work in movie mode.

I agree that the Sony software will not trigger the video record start and stop sane with the IR remote. Both will trigger the shutter to take a picture

Are you saying there is a wired remote that lets you control Video start/stop for the a6000? In the assessors link you posted which is the correct model for this option?

I cannot say for sure, but I don't see why not. Since Sony lists wireless and wired remotes on their web site. I do have the a6000 but I don't shoot in movie mode. I would contact Sony customer support or contact a reliable store like B&H or Adorama and ask them.
