Nice set.
The leather strips seen attached to the ankles are called jesses, are used to control the bird when on the handler's glove, or on the bird's perch.

Here are a few shots of a peregrine falcon from the Air Force Academy putting on a show at 'Eagle Days' at Lake Pueblo, CO.

The handler has a bait ball at the end of rope that they use to draw the falcon to them

(Download)

After a few passes by the handler he will let the falcon get the bait

How did you get up so high to get that shot? I can never find these lil buggers anywhere. We have a bird sanctuary near us that I know that one hangs out at but the only sign is that I hear him and got a glimpse of him once. NEVER able to get a shot of one in the wild.

Thank you for taking a look jiminee1, I was able to get up into the nook of a tree about 4' from the ground where I got the third shot.

Sneaky little one, good catch Howlynn.

Thank you ebbote, every time I've been there the owl has been in a different place in the nest. Makes it more interesting.

Great photos. Will make me stop and check out hollowed out logs more often on my nature walks. In my local park I know of several trees with raccoons in them and make it a point on my walk to check and see if the coons are hanging out in the tree at that time.

Thanks for taking a look PhotoBiker

Excellent pictures my question is did u climb one of the trees next to it to get such great pictures? My api climbing tree stand would be an excellent tool for that.

Yes Troutbum I did climb about 4' into the nook of a trunk of a big cottonwood tree. That is where I got the third shot from. Soon there will be yellow tape around this site placed by the division of wildlife to try and give this owl 75-100' of space.
