thanks - do you use a tripod? Ball head or gimble?
Thanks Jeep Daddy. Question - what is the 5/9 focus points? I have a 5D3 and the 100-400.
I do hang my camera bag under it. Helps a little.
I know that the tripod discussion keeps coming up - but I'm heading into a crazy mode trying to pick "the right one."
I currently have an old Aluminum Manfrotto 190XPROL aluminum with a Manfrotto MHXPRO-BH02 ball head.
I use it with a Canon 5D3 - and my heaviest lens is a Tamron 150-600. And soon a Canon 100 to 400 with 1.4X.
So any wind or vibration - and this thing shakes. I do some commercial work - so a new tripod needs to work well. I am not looking for a travel tripod.
I also use a Rapid Strap attached with a FR-T1 attachment which fits nicely under the current Manfrotto RC-2 Plate. I don't want to give this up. It's not clear if this will work with the RRS Canon 5D3 plates.
I've looked at RRS - TVC-34L. Is there anything else that I should be considering?
Does it make sense to keep my Manfrotto ball head and RC-2 plate - and just get a set of Tripod legs?
Has anyone owned both a Tamron 150-600 v1 and a Canon 100-400 v2?
I currently have the Tamron 150-600 v1, and find it to be a little soft. (vs. crisp focus.) I just upgraded from a Canon 70-200 f4 to a 70-200 f2.8 and saw a huge difference. I'm wondering if I will get the same quality bump going to the Canon 100-400 v2.
I shoot a Canon 5D3. This will be used for wildlife - but also for industrial shots where I need more reach than my 70-200.
I'm also thinking of getting the 1.4 extender to go with it.
Thanks.
Has anyone owned both the Tamron 150 to 600 v1 and the Canon 100 to 400 v2? I have the Tamron V1 and am considering getting the Canon. Is the image quality much better?
I shoot with a Canon 5D3.
Final results. On the recommendation of a fellow UHH'er, I bought a Tamrac Rally 6 Bag. Around $40 on Amazon. Works great.
I have 3 Einstein's that I use with remote Buff triggers that work really well. I also have 2 of the small Buff battery pack/inverters . They work great for studio and event work.
But it is a lot of gear to carry.
I also have a couple of Ex-600 Canon flashes for occasions where I have to walk the floor of an event or don't want to pack all the Buff gear.
I occasionally shoot events or fundraisers where I have to wear nice clothes (sport coat) and walk the room. Right now I carry a small LowePro backpack. This looks out of place, and I constantly hit people with it as I turn around. Plus - I use a Rapid Strap which tends to get mixed up with my backpack straps.
Any suggestions for a small satchel or messenger type bag (or other type) that looks good and doesn't scream photographer? Plus is easy to take on/off with the Rapid Strap.
I would typically carry a Canon 5Dlll and 3 lenses. (one is always on the camera) 16 to 35, 24 to 105, and 70 to 200 (2.8). Plus a spare battery, a flash (or two) and a Gary Fong collapsible light sphere. The bag wouldn't have to carry the camera and one lens that's on it. Just the lenses and stuff I'm not using.
Thanks.
WHCC = White House Custom Colour :)
I use White House Custom Colour. Good customer service and turn around time.
The other purchase I'm looking to make is NAS storage. I'm living with a 3TB Western Digital USB and a 300GB Seagate USB on a laptop with a 256GB hard drive.
I'm looking at a 15TB 4 to 6 bay machine with back-up capabilities. Prices seem to be around $1,200. I have really slow internet (country living) so cloud backup doesn't really work. I've looked at solutions from Drobo, Synology and QNAP. I haven't figured out the right answer yet.
I am looking as well. I'd like to have 32G and a SSD. Here's a candidate: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAE4N7XH1075
Thanks for the inputs. I usually have Word, Power Point and a bunch of other apps open at the same time.
Gaming sounds about right.
