Hope this is an ok place to make a statement...

Sure hope ya'll got some great shots tonight of the Super Duper Full Blood Moon shots of the Eclipse. Every event this year as far as stars and the moon go, it has been nothing but cloudy and/or rainy here. Nothing. Nada. Zero.
The only hope left now is that the clouds might clear a bit to catch something of the eclipse later on, but dang. I'm a tad ticked. Had a view picked out overlooking a lake.

OK. Whining stopped now. Thanks for listening.

It was hard to hold the camera and my left hand steady to catch her feeding ( she also kept landing on my head which was a little distracting ! LOL ! )

These are great! Congrats on getting them to your hand like that.

So this happened.

At the beginning of 2015 I was happily plodding along, shooting 100% jpegs in my tiny-sensored compact camera, processing in a slightly obsolete version of PS-Elements, doin’ pretty good I thought…

Then, for reasons not now entirely well understood, I took a crack at raw capture (which I had not previously because of an inability to process it).

WELL one thing led to another, and in the space of less than a year (what a difference a year makes) I have been fully converted, an ultra-orthodox raw shooter...[/i]
b i color=green So this happened. /color /i ... (show quote)

I too have a similar story. Love LR and still learning with it...also trying to learn the new Affinity Photo rather than photoshop.
I was thinking there should be a group for folks like us and then realized there is...it's the Hog! So glad I found this place.

There will be 10 in all.

Taken in California with a Canon T3i and a 75-300mm zoom. I moved the feeder around the yard for different backgrounds and just sat in a chair waiting for them. There were plenty! These are tiny only about 3inches in length and fast as heck! If I got any closer than about 8 feet they they stayed away.

Nice photos!
Love sitting out and watching hummers. Mine are gone now with only an occasional one that's passing through.
Rather than moving the feeder around, I've several feeders spread out to get the different backgrounds. Then I move the chair around as well to get different backgrounds. Keep letting them see you out there, they'll get used to ya...and then you'll be able to get closer.

I'm good to go! Now if the weather will cooperate. Calling for rain/clouds with this low pressure system off the NC coast. UGH!

I'm trying to get a couple of possible locations lined up here in Richmond, VA...and just heard on the news that the weatherman is calling for 60% chance of rain on Sunday. Bummer! Hoping there will somehow be clear skies in the evening!

Hummers are the neatest little bitty critters and you've captured this guy well! Mine have left but I've got some now that are passing through and headed home.

I'm fairly familiar with most of the features of this camera and some of its quirks. I am a bit less knowledgeable about the 6 AF Cases. If you run into any other features that are not working as you expected feel free to PM me and pick my brain. I can't guaranty I'll have an answer to every question, but I'll probably be able to help you.

I just recently got my 7dii...I'm loving it, but yes, there's a lot more in its brain than mine.
I couldn't understand the 6 cases but just yesterday came across this canon info that has really helped me with exactly that:
http://downloads.canon.com/camera/brochures/EOS_7D_Mark_II_AF_guide_CUSA_9-2014.pdf

And this one:

Hope they help, and aren't too far off base from the OP questions. Still learning...

West of Havana a few hours is the Pinar del Rio region, which has fantastic rock formations coming up out of the valley - similar to what you see in Halong Bay in Vietnam. There is an "artist's alley" in Havana with great mural art.

FYI: I traveled there to study their health care system in 2010 - I have a photo essay at:

Awesome photos and story to go with it! Sure would like to visit there someday!

That's a great shot! I was watching a hummer sitting on top of my feeder and a small gnat or something was buzzing near him, about 4" away. He just flitted out, caught him, and went right back to his spot. I did not have my camera on him, but would loved to have caught that shot!

My wife and I Are thinking of leaving Michigan and taking A tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We need to stay in hotels due to a couple of recent surgeries but would love to have camped. I need help from you guys ..... Where would you stay ( towns and hotel) and where would you stop for sights and great pics We are planning on at least a week and ending up in Knoxville to see grandkids
Thanks for all your help. ( hope I don't get deleted )

Can't give you much info on where to stay...others have given you a ton of great info. What I can say is there will be no shortage of photo ops all along the way. Overlooks are well marked, you'll have awesome views and gorgeous sunrise/sets. I think your bigger problem is going to be are you going to be able to take your time. The parkway is for meandering along, wonderful sidetrips and stops along the way. You will not be disappointed AT. All.
