I took the drone up, but it is very windy today, so I didn't go very high. Not high enough to get better pictures. I wanted to go up high enough to get pictures of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Alleghany Mountains, but maybe next time I can do that. You can see a little of the Alleghany in these.

I also went and tried to terrorize our turkeys, but Big Tom just wanted to impress me. The other turkeys and chickens ran away. LOL.

You can see I had the propeller guards on today and I'm glad I did. The wind blew the drone into a tree trunk and it just bumped off.

I haven't kept up with the rules but I think VLOS (visual line of sight) is FAA mandatory at this point. My race drones are VLOS with goggles and several (home built) small ground station receivers with 5" and 7" shrouded screens on tripod, and I have several 370-400mm light duty camera drones. Wind (brisk to strong) with heavy above the treetop turbulance has been a killer for me (and several drone buddies) lately, seems like every time I'm planning to fly the winds here are just strong enough to make me hesitate. None of mine have GPS either, although I could add.

Got into the race drones to keep my mind sharp and skills up, but I'm not any real competition for the younger folks, and I'm a much more conservative and careful flyer. Do like what I've been seeing with the newer model camera platforms, and I've not kept up on "who's the best", but sounds like most still see DJI as the standard, so I might go lookin for a used/new Phantom 3 Stnd.

I think I need to read up on the rules I didn't take the drone out much last year because it seemed like it was always raining. And then after the rain would come the wind.

I'm not adventurous enough to even try race drones, but I'm sure that's fun?

You could try looking here, even though with just a quick look, I don't see any 3's, but a couple 4's. https://phantompilots.com/forums/classifieds.9/ I see Amazon has them for $489.

Picks look good, sound like fun! Tickling my fancy, I was near to buying a Phantom 2 a while back but heard a fair amount of talk about "flyaways" and after suffering through one with a fairly expensive race drone I put it on the backburner. Don't have the scratch for a Phantom 4 but a 3 standard might make me happy. Pics look good. I'm just far enough from local airports that I should not have any issues with real aircraft. My interest is on the uptick again!!!

I'm scared of the "flyaways" also. One reason I have never taken it out of sight or hit the button for it to come home by itself. I have calibrated it to return here, but haven't really had a reason to go further than I can see yet. I need to practice more and maybe I'll get the confidence to let the drone do everything it can do.

I will. I might just go make sure everything is charged and go out in the afternoon today.

I have been doing some training flight as I call them, to familiarize myself with this drone. I previous had a Mavic Pro but sold it. now I have this phantom 3 and it is so similar in flight. Here are a couple photos.

My husband has the Phantom 3 drone, but I'm the one who flies it. I think I'll call it mine. I've taken videos of our property, but haven't taken any pictures with it yet. You have inspired me to get out and take some, since yours look so great.

Most people disagree because half of them have idea what they are talking about! LOL
They just pass on their internet misinformation.

Seems like that happens on every social site/forum I've ever visited. People will be people. It can be entertaining or very maddening. But I really do appreciate this site! I have learned so much in just a couple months, and I love seeing all the beautiful photos.

Again, thanks for replying to my question.

Lenses do not have USA specific SNs

The D5300 is one of the grey market cameras that Nikon allows their "authorized service center" to repair.

Thanks so much for the info! I hope I never need a repair but that makes me feel a little better. There was so much I didn't know before buying a camera, I should have just read these boards for months before buying. I find UHH very interesting and informative, even when people are disagreeing.

If the first two numbers in the SN are from 25 to 39 then its a USA model. Anything else will be grey market.

Thanks. That figures, mine is a grey market. I should have known when it came with a Spanish only manual. I am a beginner, so knew nothing about the best places to buy cameras. Do the lens follow that same rule? My D5300 SN starts with 49, but the lens starts with 30.

Are there places that will repair the grey market cameras if something should break?

Canon will repair some grey market product, on a case-by-case basis. (Always at a higher labor rate too) The difference is there is no way to tell if a used Canon camera is grey market or not until you send it to them. (I personally had a repair on a 5D3 refused for being grey market). Whereas a Nikon bodys serial number tells you if its USA or not so a buyer can easily make the decision to buy that grey market camera or not.
That choice is up to the buyer for Nikons, its a total crapshoot for Canon.

So how can a buyer tell by the serial number if it's USA? I'm interested because I bought a Nikon from Amazon before I knew anything about grey market cameras. Is there a list of the numbers or a website where you can find this out?

Today I ordered something very inexpensive from Amazon. When I got my confirmation email from them it appears that either I or they also enrolled me in Prime at $12.99/mo. I do not buy enough from them to warrant $12.99/mo and probably never will. This is a free first month trial but I want to get out of this ASAP. How do I do that? Thanks.

A Semi Truck missed the curve in the road this morning. He fell asleep at the wheel and was taken to hospital with a head injury. He was carrying about 48,000 lbs of Restaurant quality Angus Beef Brisket. The insurance agent was at the scene and said they could not keep the meat and would have to be destroyed or given away. So my husband loaded up about 300 lbs in the freezer most which will be given away, and the local farmers have come to get some. The tow truck driver just told us that there is still about 200 lbs they have put on pallets over the fence in our pasture. It is snowing heavily now so it should still be find by morning. Will probably take the rest down to the homeless shelter. WOW still cannot believe it.

Something like that happened about 25 years ago in Maine....except the truck was carrying live lobsters! My husband's family took home a few buckets of lobsters and had a feast.
