I have been doing some training flight as I call them, to familiarize myself with this drone. I previous had a Mavic Pro but sold it. now I have this phantom 3 and it is so similar in flight. Here are a couple photos.
I have that drone also, and I really like it. The camera produces some really excellent images and it is easy to fly. Can you tell me why you sold the Mavic Pro? So many people rave about it.
I wanted to get into metal detecting and need some money to buy the equipment, now after just a few months I missed flying as it has been in my life for 45 years. So I decided to find another drone and found this one

My husband has the Phantom 3 drone, but I'm the one who flies it. I think I'll call it mine.
I've taken videos of our property, but haven't taken any pictures with it yet. You have inspired me to get out and take some, since yours look so great.
Instead of video change it to photos, I used HDR for mine

Picks look good, sound like fun! Tickling my fancy, I was near to buying a Phantom 2 a while back but heard a fair amount of talk about "flyaways" and after suffering through one with a fairly expensive race drone I put it on the backburner. Don't have the scratch for a Phantom 4 but a 3 standard might make me happy. Pics look good. I'm just far enough from local airports that I should not have any issues with real aircraft. My interest is on the uptick again!!!

I will. I might just go make sure everything is charged and go out in the afternoon today.

I'm scared of the "flyaways" also. One reason I have never taken it out of sight or hit the button for it to come home by itself. I have calibrated it to return here, but haven't really had a reason to go further than I can see yet. I need to practice more and maybe I'll get the confidence to let the drone do everything it can do.

I haven't kept up with the rules but I think VLOS (visual line of sight) is FAA mandatory at this point. My race drones are VLOS with goggles and several (home built) small ground station receivers with 5" and 7" shrouded screens on tripod, and I have several 370-400mm light duty camera drones. Wind (brisk to strong) with heavy above the treetop turbulance has been a killer for me (and several drone buddies) lately, seems like every time I'm planning to fly the winds here are just strong enough to make me hesitate. None of mine have GPS either, although I could add.
Got into the race drones to keep my mind sharp and skills up, but I'm not any real competition for the younger folks, and I'm a much more conservative and careful flyer. Do like what I've been seeing with the newer model camera platforms, and I've not kept up on "who's the best", but sounds like most still see DJI as the standard, so I might go lookin for a used/new Phantom 3 Stnd.
Look on the Facebook market place

I think I need to read up on the rules
I didn't take the drone out much last year because it seemed like it was always raining. And then after the rain would come the wind.
I'm not adventurous enough to even try race drones, but I'm sure that's fun?
You could try looking here, even though with just a quick look, I don't see any 3's, but a couple 4's.
https://phantompilots.com/forums/classifieds.9/ I see Amazon has them for $489.

Race drones are fun, and very challenging for this wannabe racer. Being a long time R/C guy I'm good with rebuilds, repairs and maintenance, and all that goes with it. I have three racers (after losing one) 2 Walkera F210's and a Walkera Rodeo F150, all VLOS and quite fast (plenty fast for me) my reflexes aren't lightning fast anymore, so they keep me on my toes!! Gotta love the video view of a "punch out" vertical or horizontal 0-75 mph in approx 1 second! I didn't mean to hijack this thread, so I'll slide for now.

I've got one of those (metal detectors) in the closet, they have a lot of rules now on those in public places. I guess probably folks digging up stuff and leaving the mess? Saw the note about facebook, my son is supposed to be watching for one on there, I'll have to check it out. Was also loking at that new Spark model.... we shall see!
