It would be a shame to visit MB and not drive 2 hours south to visit one of the most stunning cities in America. Charleston has enough to see you could easily spend a couple of weeks there and still only scratch the surface. I lived there for six years before moving to Pennsylvania thirty-something years ago. My family has returned yearly and two years ago we purchased a 2nd home on Mt. Pleasant across the Cooper River from downtown Charleston. We go down about three times a year now. Despite how much I've been there, there is a never-ending supply of things to see and do. From the boat ride out to Ft. Sumpter to the Ghost carriage rides, museums, and plantations, you will never get it all in without multiple visits. The food is as good as it gets anywhere with James Beard-honored restaurants. Great little out-of-the-way eateries like "Poe's" out on Sullivan's Island (a barrier island off the coast of Mt. Pleasant and about half an hour from downtown Charleston). They may serve you a hamburger as good as you will find anywhere. It is a small white house with seating inside, on the porch, or in the front yard. The theme of course is Poe with the raven on the sign. Take a walk on some of the cobblestone streets and stroll along the "Battery" This is a seawall that juts out in the Charleston harbor. A nice park runs down one length of the seawall and some of the most beautiful mansions from the Colonial Era are adjacent to the park. A park that lines the harbor along the Cooper River is a nice place to relax for a couple of hours. Enjoy the fountains (including the famous Pineapple Fountain), watch sailboats on the river, and have a swing in one of the swings that are under the covered portions of a dock that runs out into the river. The four-block-long market is also a great visit with many merchants selling locally made crafts including the Sweet Grass baskets that are hand-woven by ancestors of slaves. This is a craft handed down through the ages and is synonymous with the "Low Country". A real treat is to visit the Pharmacy in Old Village on Mt. Pleasant, sit on one of the round bar stools, and have a hand-dipped chocolate malt. If you think you might take this advice, PM me and I will give you a couple of suggestions you might like.

I was going to write a similar reply, but Bridges stated his reply so eloquently there was nothing left to be said. I would like to say that as you head south on Highway 7(?) there is a restored ante Bellam plantation that is worth a visit. I found the period dressed docents knowledgeable and more than willing to pose for pictures. In particular, I found the seagrass weavers most accommodating one of whom allowed me to make close up pictures of her hands as she wove. I found the weavers in Charleston more belligerent and unwilling to have their pictures taken.

Great Shots in crisp B&W. So often I see similar shots but the contrast is way too soft.

Thank you for your reply and link. I did not notice that caveat when I bought the grips. I do not use the video feature built into the camera, but I am going to go into the camera menu and disable every video feature I can. There may be a shared or crossover interface. I have seen other threads on UHH discussing the video features in today's cameras. Some folks have tried to get cameras without the video capability built in and have reported such a camera costs more. Go figure, less features, more money. Of course, I'm sure the camera manufacturers would have to redesign some of the camera's guts and that is where the extra price comes in.

Thank you all for your insightful replies. Many of you have asked for an update so here is what I have done so far.
First I explored all of the menu options to see if I had enabled, (or disabled), something that affects the shield that protects the sensor when changing a lens. Could not find anything wrong there. Since I am using third party battery grips and I did not have the problem before using them I was pretty sure that was where the problem was. I removed the grip from the camera and went to using the camera without the grip. The problem went away so I am assuming that was the cause. I have used third party camera grips on all of my Nikon cameras and never had a problem until now. They worked flawlessly on my Z6's but I sold those cameras with the grips included. When third party grips became available for the Z8's I bought them. The do operate properly when attached to the Z8's and they do not seem to affect any other camera function other than the one I asked about in this thread. I am currently contacting the manufacturer to see if they have received any other complaints about this situation. Perhaps there may be a firmware update or something of that nature. (Firmware for the grip, not the camera). The camera is usable with the grip attached if you are willing to put up with it shuttting down every so often. For those of you who may be considering buying a battery grip for your camera the manufacturer is MCOPLUS and it does come with a one year warranty.

Hello Hoggers,
I bought two Z8's as soon as they were available. Over the past 9 months or so they have performed flawlessly. I shoot a lot of high school sports action and I have been having a problem recently which I hope some user with more experience than me can help me resolve.
The problem I am having is that the camera seems to shut down for no reason. I am shoot in the continuous mode at 3 frames per second. The camera will take about ten to twenty shots and then will just shut itself off. The viewfinder goes black and I can feel the physical clunk of the shutter closing as it is supposed to do when you are changing lenses. After five or ten seconds the camera comes back on and I continue shooting. After another few minutes the whole thing happens again.
Has anyone experienced this problem? I am suspicious that it has something to do with the battery grips I am using but I have not tested that theory as yet. I bought battery grips as soon as they became available for both of my Z8's in order not to have to change batteries in the middle of the shoot. I am wondering if there is a setting I may have missed. Any advice will be appreciated.

I haven't read the entire thread but when I got my Z8's I found Hudson Henry's video's on YouTube most helpful. He goes into great detail about the Z9, which is essentially a z8 on steroids. Most of the controls are exactly the same and when they are not, he lets you know. I got my Z8's immediately when they became available, since that time Henry has released Videos about the Z8 exclusively. I am waiting until Bob Busch's book on the Z8 is released, sometime in the Spring. I found he is quite thorough in his presentation and explanations of the various functions of the camera.

I have bought from Temu three times. I have been satisfied with the products. One of which was a pair of shoes. The ads on Temu give the sizes but not the widths. (I have a EE width). I chatted with them about this but did not receive coherent response. I took a chance because of the price and the shoes fit well. I have been warned by others that returns are a problem and they are uncooperative when trying to return. I have a hand held steamer that I am trying to return now so I will have to see what happens. The only other problem that I have with them is that the orders seem to come from China rather than a U.S. redistributor. That makes the time from placing the order to receipt of the product much longer. The aforementioned steamer took 8 days to arrive from China, If I ordered the same steamer from Ebay I would have had it in 3 or 4 days.

I did church directories and fund raisers for more than 10 years. I personally photographed in over 600 churches during those years. I also ran a crew of 15 photographers. Our territory was the southeastern quadrant or the United States. We did directories using long roll film cameras and we were quick to make the change to digital when it became feasible to do so. I am long retired from that aspect of photography, but I still get asked to do the occasional directory. I still have the software for laying out the pages and for adding the necessary information that accompanies the photographs. I fully agree with most, (if not all), of the advice in this thread.
When I was in full swing, I probably used the same software you are using. I supplied most of my clients with the directory in .pdf format and made them responsible for the printing. Most of them posted a link on their web sites that took the viewer to the place where they could view the directory. Some made the PDF available for download to their membership, others printed and bound their own copies, and still others did both. Those who printed their own directories used color copiers using standard, (bright white), paper and bound them into booklets with plastic comb binding equipment.
As a photographer I stayed away from the actual printing. I bid out the job for a flat fee and did not solicit additional business by printing photo packages. If the people wanted physical copies of the images for family and friends I was happy to accommodate, (for a price).

I use a Nikon P1000 on all my vacations and travel. It's nice to have everything you need in one package. I was about to use it on a trip to Israel when the recent conflict broke out. The tour company cancelled the trip out of safety concerns. A great, but necessary, disappointment

Thanks Bob for your input. I cut my photographic teeth using Crown Graphics. It was probably the most versatile camera of its day. I apprenticed with a local photographer in 1965, (I was 21 at the time and thought I knew everything there was to know about photography). He literally taught me the craft. My mentor would not photograph with anything smaller than a 4x5 Graphic camera. At that time he could slide the film holders into the camera, remove the dark slide, take the picture, and replace the dark slide, faster that I could wind my 35mm camera, (an Argus C3 affectionately known as the brick), As I matured in the craft, I opted to use the smaller 2¼x3¼ Crown Graphics with the roll film backs. I shot weddings with them back in that day when complete wedding coverage was 30 shots or less. (10 shots per roll of film). I left the Graphic cameras behind, regretfully, when I was able to afford my first Hasselblad's in 1975.

2¼x3¼ GRAPHIC CENTURY CAMERA - $300

This Graphic Century camera is in pristine condition.
The lens and shutter are in perfect working order and all of
camera controls are smooth and functional. The Kalart Syncronized
Range Finder is extremely accurate and the images are tack sharp
on the ground glass. The camera comes with:
8 - 2¼x3¼ sheet film holders (some have film in them!) in good condition
1 - Graphic Film Pack Adapter with a TRI X film pack inside it! (I did
not remove the film pack so I do not know if there is film inside it).
1 - Seconic Reflection Type Exposure meter, (I tested it and it is
surprisingly accurate).
1 - Camera users guide (Copyright 1952)

IF interested PM me. I will entertain reasonable offers.

You have done a great job documenting your trip. I enjoyed looking at the various places I have been in Florence and reliving the wonderful time my wife and I had there doing, (essentially), what you documented.

While I'm not a fan of Batteries Plus products, they can sometimes be helpful at identifying available replacements for proprietary batteries. Once you have a part number that ties to an available cross reference, it is possible to sometimes find a viable replacement.

Thanks, we have a local Batteries Plus so I will try your suggestion and I'll let you know what happens.
