When cropping, more pixel per inch helps a lot. If you crop a lot of your photos, go for the higher MP camera.

This question has been covered many times and always brings interesting dialog. Photography is an art form and art can be anything from paintings, photos, sculptors, etc. The beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder. Just like art takes on different forms, photographers too are different in their style. I am a photojournalist. I tell a story in photos. For my audience to feel like they were at the event with me, my photos must capture the essence of the event as is. I post process a lot of my photos, but I never change the way they look when taken. Doing so would be giving my audience a look that was not "actual".

If you are trying to decide between crop or full frame, my preference would be full frame. The 90D has gotten good reviews but I would suspect it will be the last crop sensor DSLR Canon will come out with, other than the Rebel line. If budget is a consideration, go for a good used 5D III, you wont be disappointed.

The Mirrorless EOS RP was designed after the 6D II. Consider mirrorless.

Take both if you can and use whichever lens gives you the best focal point. If you are far from the mat use the 70-200 if closer use the 24-70. Or, buy another body and use both at the same time.

I went back to the camera store to test the 90D and took a blank card to take a few pics. I took 10 and came back to download them and ran into a problem. The ext on the photos is CR3 and although they download (I guess can't see them). There is nothing in the photos. All of these tests were in RAW as that is all I shoot. I checked files from 2 days ago and all files end in CR2, and they all work fine in download. I am running the latest version of PS CC. What if anything can I do about this?

CR3 files are Canon's new RAW file format. My EOS RP's shoot RAW CR3 files. Use Canon's photo processing software. You can download the latest software from Canon's web site.

So are you saying that when we only had 6 or 8 or 10 MP sensors, then what we got was trash?

No, that's what we had back then and we didn't know what a 30 MP photo looked like. Now we do. If technology allows for us to produce a better product why not take advantage of it.

When I went from the 5D mark III (22 megapixels) to the Mark IV (30 megapixels) I saw a huge difference in image quality. The 7D II is a great camera, but not knowing much about the new 90D I can only assume you would see a big difference. Also, the 90D has the new Digic 8 Processor. My EOS RP has the Digic 8 Processor and the images are every bit as good as on my 5D IV.

I used to shoot all RAW for everything I did. As I got busier (I now shoot 10-13 events a week) I couldn't keep up with editing 1,500-2,000 photos per week. I will admit, it is hard to juggle all that and throw in deadlines on top of it all. If I have a busy day/week, and I am comfortable with the venue or location of the shoot, I will shoot jpg just to save time. I know of colleagues that are very busy with their photography business and have hired someone to edit their RAW photos for them. That's very trusting.

Good point here. As a Photojournalist, I try to bring the viewer along with me through my photos. My photos bring an event to life for the viewer. What I see they see, so to speak. I am a huge supporter of the Arts and firmly believe the Arts are an important part of a vibrant community. Photography can be more than just point and shoot as long as it is done good taste. However, if I were to post an article of an event I had attended and the photos were not representative of the actual event, I would get a huge negative push back from the readers, not to mention the credibility issue. In this case, the photos of Mount Rushmore would/could be acceptable because all you did was add clouds. If you added something that didn't belong, like a wall climber, your photo could be viewed as "not credible" and not "actually what you were seeing".

The mother putting on the party should have informed the other parents that a photographer would be present. That way the other families could say yay or nay to having their kids in the photos. However, a children's birthday party is pretty much all or nothing, you really can't exclude one kid because his/her parents don't want them in the photos. If it was a private party you should be ok. I was asked to shoot a slumber party for a large group of girls, with the stipulation I could only photograph the kids that were over 17 years old, what a mess.
