You have two AF on and off. The one one the lens (not every lens does have it) and the one on the body under the button where you change the lens. I’m not sure if I m right about it.

I had to learn that can be lens error, camera error and or the camera can’t handle certain subject to focus properly. My first DSLR couldn’t focus properly on certain skin types.
Later I had a lens where the focus engine broke down. When I zoomed in or out I felt like a bump this was already a sign of failure.
The body I used broke down and the first signs was focus issues. With this body I would just use certain lenses. Before the body broke down I got a high end body and when I used the first time I realized that 80% of lenses I had I didn’t use anymore with the old body.

Years ago I bought an older Nikon lens relatively cheap. Solid quality and I was surprised that no one payed attention to it. Couple years later the price almost tripled……🤷🏼‍♂️

There are different kind of models of Nikon battery and you find aftermarket battery too.
I have one aftermarket battery but this feels like aftermarket. I got some original without the letter on the end they work great and I fund them by accident in a pawnshop what I got for a great deal…. I was afraid that those wasn’t used for a long time

I used for long time the 7000 and before I got my 810 my focusing felt never that great with the 7000. When I got the 810 I realized that my knowledge about focusing wasn’t there. When I put the 70-200 2.8 on each body it does feel different. The 810 goes smooth what I can’t say on the 7100. (I got rid of the 7000 and someone gave me a 7100)When I put the 75-300 VR on the 810 it’s a bit slower but in most situations this is not so relevant.
For the z9 I don’t have the money and the other z I feel lost what would be close or better than 810/850/500
I solved some of my focus issues with his instructions. I wish I would had it when I still used the 7000.

To reset Nikon there is a custom menu, a shooting menu and one more I don’t remember. Reset all and then try again to set the camera how you want.certain stuff shouldn’t be much different from the 5xxx……

Nikon have three different items you want to reset. Coustom settings, shooting settings and I don’t remember. Google it. I did this with a used 810 some years ago. I bought David bush book just to reset this camera
