the cameras are very smart, menus are bewilderingly complicated.........especially so for people who used to carry 2 or more cameras to enable the

use of different ASA / ISO typically 25 Kodachrome to 400 ASA HP4 b&w . Now, in spite of all this sophistication in camera menu choice, lens focal length,

filters etc etc...... why do some photographers insist on subjecting their images to being "Photoshopped" to within an inch of their lives? Can be most misleading

and at worst garish, even painters, who have total control over their media try to resist "overworking" their image to the extent that it becomes unrealistic.

the problem is that neighbors also have to endure the noise

Oliver Cromwell and others was responsible for the Execution of King Charles 1 .......who, in the opinion of many asked for all he got !

The reign of Oliver Cromwell was so depressingly awful, with the closure of theatres and generally miserable imposed conditions that lead

to the investiture of Charles 2, who was not much better than his father, but as he was kept satisfied with palaces and horse racing did not

conduct himself in such a manner as to cause a Civil War. Monarchy was thought to be a better alternative than Dictatorship

I use my 10-20mm Sigma frequently on my crop frame Nikon...............

Invaluable for Stately Home interiors, Castles, cramped surroundings , the almost infinite depth of field is a big feature.

Use it much more frequently than a telephoto ............but then I am not into " Birding "

And engineers don't use slide rules anymore either!

Definitely a land locked in time, and such stark contrast of so many things. We had the opportunity to travel Central america for an extended time a few years ago, but I think Old Habana has to be one of the best places I've ever seen for some really unique photo opportunities.

Most of the old cars in these photos are in the "Grancar" fleet...totally for tourism. There's a logo for it in the Red 59 Impala photo. We were told those are owned by the government. Probably confiscated soon after the revolution. But they indeed do a great job of keeping them going and looking good.

For those of us old enough to remember, most of the cars in that era had what we called "tree on the tree" manual transmissions. Two of them (taxis) we rode in had 5 speed transmission...was a bit of a surprise when he shifted to 4th, and even more so when it went to 5th!

And I could tell by the sound of the engine they were not the (mostly) old straight sixes in a lot of them when they were new. I'd guess they had been replaced with truck engines and transmissions. So mechanically, yes, it truly is an amazing feat of creativity.

Truly amazing place...
Definitely a land locked in time, and such stark c... (show quote)

" Three on the tree ", we experimented with those here in UK for a while, not very popular, very uncertain and my old 4 speed MG Magnette would walk all over the

3 gear Fords of that era, especially if, in hilly country, (Derbyshire) you could force them into 2nd gear, they were B*$%ggered as they could not get back into top gear again.

in my motoring history you can only beat "4 on the floor" with perhaps a 5 speed or 6 speed manual.......although even I have to admit that there are now some pretty good

automatics. Credit to the local engineers who have fitted more modern engines to the 1950s cars.

I wish we had a relationship with Venezuela......to get cheap fuel would be good, very expensive here, per litre you can buy milk and beer cheaper than petrol and diesel.

..........Have a good Xmas and an even better New Year

pleased that USA and Cuba are now a little more friendly, the politics may be different but the people have a long history of kinship.

Communism (dirty word) can have some benefits to ordinary people in terms of health care, education etc.

A place that I and my camera would love to visit
