What a handsome devil.

We have a Pomeranian with hyperactivity disorder and two Saint Bernard puppies that are almost incapable of sitting still for a photo op.

Nicely done, Butch deserves a sip.

Wife gave him a dose of Trazadone before the sitting.

Never had these here in the 20 years I've been here. Normally 500 miles north of here.

Must be global warming causing northern birds to move south.

Hard to tell relative size from a single pic in isolation? Also, the calls of a bird (which is not heard in a still picture) can be very helpful in IDing a bird. The call of a goshawk is very distinctive:

The female Goshawks can get to be almost as large as the male Golden Eagle. When I was living in NC, a female wintered in the woods aound our home. She was impressive, but she was effective at ridding the area of feral cats (there were about a dozen of them) . She also terrorized our two cats. They would not go outside if she was perched within sight, which was often.

We get a couple Northern Goshawks in the winter. They are tough at our winter bird feeders and on our local pygmy rabbits.

Your input and my further research suggests Coopers.

Too large for sharp shinned and didn’t see the yellow legs.

I have had Northern Goshawk here in winter. They are larger and more grey.

Thanks!

Opps…should have said southwest Idaho. Must have lived in southeast too long.

Did not get the variety there as it is at higher elevation.

Neither. You need to use higher fstop to get DOF needed for focus.

I used the download to check focus.
