Beautiful photo Kiron. Interesting that my guess as to her age based on facial features does not coincide with greying of the hair.

Welcome to the forum. I'm relatively new here also. Some really great photographers in this group who are willing to share. Good luck with your pastime and keep posting images.

Good point about the EMP issue. I am looking for plans to build a UV box for alternative printing processes if you know of one in good condition I'd appreciate a heads up.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a 35mm Canon body and have plans to start shooting some 35mm in the near future. My darkroom (just finished building it a week ago - moved to a different house) is also set up for color and B&W; I got a color head because I once printed Cibachrome (don't know what they're calling it now.) A fair amount of my B&W has been printed on FB variable contrast paper so a dichroic head makes filter alterations far easier.

My preferred camera is a Wista 4X5 field camera. Hope we can get some "New Topics" on film started, or maybe it's already on this site. I haven't spent a great deal of time here to date.

Thanks for the response. Generally, I shoot 4X5 and I do soup my own negs. I have been scanning negs recently - a humbling experience to scan negs you never printed; the reason I never printed them becomes evident post scan. I have been scanning (Epson V750 Pro) at 800 dpi resolution at 24 bits. Scanning settings seem to not have much influence when scans are opened in PS. They all open as 16 bit scans; I have no idea why.

A couple of years ago, well four years ago, I started doing Bromoil printing. I generally create scans or use original digital images, post process in PS and print as digital negs for contact printing. I would love to get into other alternative printing techniques, i.e. Pd/Pt, carbon black cyanotype as so forth. All of these require a UV box, and I don't currently have one; nor do I have cash I willing to put out to buy a new one. If anyone has plans for a DIY box and lighting diagram I would appreciate a heads up.

Hello, I'm relatively new to this forum and have enjoyed your banter with one another as well as appreciated the skill level that's out there. I do shoot some digital (Canon 5D MIII). I still prefer to shoot film, predominantly B&W and enjoy working in my darkroom. I was wondering whether there are others on this site that frequently shoot film?

As one who has packed large format camera, tripod and associated equipment for 30+ years I find the weight of DSLR vs mirrorless cameras an non-issue. I didn't and still don't AF focus, and my sensor is a flat of glass that will be occupied by a sheet of film for the exposure. However, as one who did diagnostic testing on cardiac patients for 40+ years I can assure you the type of camera you shoot will not reduce the health risks of obesity. Choose to loose weight or not, just don't whine to health care professionals over the end result of your choices.

It is an outlet for my right brain. I tend to live on the left side of my brain. I do it for fun and for myself, and occasionally I'm rewarded with a really nice image.
