You ARE special, Tilde. Still thinking about the theme and will try to shoot one this week, but I offer this in the meantime in memory of a special great nana (in her 90s at the time) meeting her new great grandson.

I think the content of this photo is awesome.

My latest Great Grandson, looks like he is praying. Maybe he is hoping Great Grandma will not drop him?

I was walking along a frozen creek with a 4x5 right after a snow on a very sunny day. I found a tree on a bank with a cave under the ground level. I metered the shadows (in the cave) and the highlights (sunny snow). 14 zone difference (Ansel Adams)lol. I overexposed and lenghtened the development time. The detail was in the shadows and you could see the detail in the snow granuales with no area bleached out. So if you are still shooting film thats how Ansel would have done it. I just recently started digital and I have yet to find the opportunity to shoot snow which makes this thread important to me. I do know that some filters will take away the sparkle in some sunny snow photos.

sorry I have to get use to how these threads work. double post
Interesting. When I used film it was just to take pics and not with any idea on how to do so. I am most familiar with digital and snow with water is harder for me.

I got news for you....snow and water are hard for everyone unless that's the only shots they take ! Here's a shot of my apartment.....it's tough to under expose a shot to get the texture in the snow while still being able to retain detail in trees and buildings ! I didn't succeed in this shot....just a poor example !

I think you did a good job. I love the color saturation.

Funny how looking at these photos reminds me of photos I have seen of my ancestors. I love this site, everyone has so much to offer with these old photos.

My grandparents on mom's side and my Aunt Ethel

My mom. Maiden name Guderian, Dickerson is her married name. Wrong name on photo.

How about my family reunion from 1893?

I sure wish we had like buttons to push, like on face book. I would have pushed like on this one! What a large family, not unlike mine! I love family and family reunions! This photo reminds me of many of the photos my family had taken over the years.

I have been preaching to my friends and family for decades to turn the photo over and put name (s), date, location, and any other information on the back. But use extreme care not to emboss the photo!

I was looking at all them replies to why you got into photography thread. Several of the answers were to have the memories and that got me to thinking about something I saw awhile back. I was at an estate auction a few months back and there were lots of boxes piled together. I came upon a box that was full of photos, photo albums and cards a woman had saved for many years. I started to look through some of them and they were family photos. I know the person whose estate it was had children and yet that had just taken all those family memories of them and their parents and sent them to be dug through by whoever was the highest bidder. To me it was just sad that they would get rid of all those memories. (maybe they had scanned all of them or something, but I know I could never take any of my family photos and do that. To me they are too precious even if I have them scanned into my computer. )

I was recently given a wonderful gift of a Pentax PZ1p Film Camera with two zoom attachable lenses.Crystal optics 58mm lense and 70-300mm lense. It's an old used camera. The person who gave this to me is a former professional photographer.

I want to convert it to a digital so I do not have to go through the expense fo developing film. I was told that to put the pictures on a CD I would first have to have the film developed.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

You will have to have the film developed, but not printed. It will not cost much to process the film, and a few bucks more for the CD.

Here are a couple of waterfalls from Indiana; first is Williamsport Falls, highest free falling waterfall in Indiana at 90 feet. The second and third is Cataract Falls on the Ell river, largest by volume waterfall in Indiana. The drop on the third shot is about 20 feet.

Hi Nikonjohn,

I have the same pictures :-) was just there this past weekend.

If you all love waterfalls put Yosemite National Park on your wish list.

My husband told me the other day that Yosemite will be our next destination possibly in the Spring. Nice pictures by the way.

Spring is the best time to see the waterfalls in Yosemite. They are all full with the spring snow melt. They are awesome.

You are the closest of all. The answer is------------- ready? It is a raw egg mixed with 1/2&1/2 and thick soy sauce and food coloring.

The Columbia River Gorge is one of my favorite places. It is sad to think of all the people who travel the freeway through there and miss all the beauty. If any of you on hedgehog ever take that trip, take the old road! And on the Oregon side of the river!
Another great place to visit is Humbolt County Redwoods in Northern California.
