Color shots taken with a manual focus Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 on a Nikon D850, hand held. Black & white taken with a manual focus Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. Lenses from my film days. Have used manual focus Nikkors on both a D7100 and a D850; from my experience they perform better on the D850. Both these Nikkors are still available in limited quantities and are still made in Japan as is my 55mm Macro manual focus.

I am not privy to her techniques. Just told her what I wanted; I delivered the cake yesterday. It's her side business, "Black Belt Baker". She is 2nd degree black belt in TaeKwonDo, and at least 1st Degree Hapkido. Pics were taken with her Samsung cell phone even though there is a Nikon D850 in the house.

I have been using Nikon UV filters and Nikon CPL's since my film days. Nikon made the camera and the lenses, so they ought to know how to make appropriate filters too for their equipment.

Did you ask for her permission to take her pic? We as a society have almost no social skills any more. Glad I am a Baby Boomer. I feel sorry for my granddaughter.

It was a damp, chilly and very overcast day Wednesday, so I decided to go photo op hunting. Left the CPL on purposely; set the camera to Monochrome with the red filter activated. A few of the shots captured. Later that afternoon I used a 6 stop ND filter at another location but that's a topic for another post.

I have a Tamron 18-270 lens myself; had it on my D7100 for a while. I was satisfied at first, then discovered the lens was soft when my shots were enlarged a bunch; that was disappointing even for landscape work. I put that lens on my D80 body and left it there; put my 18-200 Nikon DX VR back on the D7100 and was satisfied until its focus lock died last October. Now I use only Nikon FX lens and old Nikkor manual primes. Had a Tamron 24-70 G2; returned it to B & H because the old primes were as good if not better than the G2. Had a Tamron 150-600 first generation; maybe 40% of the shots were sharp enough to consider printing; sold off that lens. No more Tamron for me.

If you are referring to those 14 point stars, I get them when I use manual focus Nikkor primes from my film days.

Took these shots last week; the early morning sun was shining across the living room; not even the squirrels were out yet. I liked the way the sunlight was illuminating the subjects. Last pic, the spillway of the Aliant Energy dam on the Wisconsin River north of Madison; the river was about four feet higher than normal last week. People were trying to wade the river to catch walleyes spawning just below the dam.

Couple of comments. Had several manual focus Nikkor primes from film days, including a 28mm f/2.8, a 50mm f/1.4 and 55mm Macro. Tried them all on my D7100 with OK results; when I got my D850 and tried those old primes, I was very pleased with the results. Those old primes are so small and light weight, they almost look out of place on the D850. Got a Tamron 24-70 G2 from B & H for my D850; I had budget constraints. Set the Tamron at 50mm and tested it side by side with my Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 and feel the Nikkor was as good if not better than the Tamron; returned the Tamron to B & H; that was the last Tamron I bought.

Much ado about nothing???? I was born and raised within walking distance of Comiskey Park; I could hear the crowd noise from my back porch at night and watch the fireworks after every night game. Of course there is that other baseball team on the north side. You think Canon has a marketing plan; just look how long that north side baseball club has been duping everyone with the Wrigley "experience". The ballpark is a dump...plain and simple! I have no interest in Canon products; am happy with my D850. Owned a Canon point and shoot; you want to see distortion? That was enough for me. GOOD GRIEF! Photographed the harbor at Baltimore, MD with that Canon and most of the buildings looked like a whole city of Leaning Towers of Pisa to me. Had a couple of hands on sessions with a photography instructor from a local college; he only spoke Canon. I would think a photography instructor would speak a couple of languages? It does not bother me one bit that in over sixty years I have been swimming upstream most of the time. I buy and use what "I" want.

Whatever Manfrotto tripod I have, to travel I simply remove the head, it all fits in my carry on. Get to my destination and put the head back on the tripod legs.

I have this ongoing debate with an acquaintance....his D500 vs my D850. He tells me all the great things about his D500. He started with a preowned D5xxx, got a D7200, then a D500 a couple of months ago. Just last week he decided he wanted/needed an FX Nikon body so shopped around and got a deal on a D700 just to have an FX body. Hey, it's his money; it's your money; do what you want with it. If you love the D500, good for you. I got tired of waiting for the D300 replacement; bought a D7100, in fact had two D7100's. Decided I wanted more resolution, sold off a D7100, was set to get a D810 then the D850 got announced. My D7100 augments my D850 which is my preferred body now. BY THE WAY I have never seen any of his shots from any of his Nikon bodies.

After the performance of "Phantom of the Opera" was over, I wanted a shot of the famous chandelier. They were not happy!
