I have an Epson Stylus Photo R3000, which utilizes 9 inks including photo black. It is about four or five years old and has a 13” carriage. It has been a good photo printer and I only use it as a photo printer. I have another less expensive printer for my normal daily use. Like all photo printers the ink media and paper is expensive.

When I replace it, I will likely buy a printer with 8” carriage capacity. Although I have printed large photos 13”x19” for display and contest on my printer, I mostly use it for 4”x6” photos for greeting cards, birthdays and proofing. Even though I use Spyder 5 Pro to calibrate my monitor (27” iMac with retina screen) on a regular basis, I find what looks good on-screen does not necessarily provide the “best” print. I mainly use a MPIX Pro to print my larger work. They do a great job and I’m not limited by size. Their prices are reasonable and can have it at my door in about 3 days. I use my photo printer to proof my submissions to MPIX, usually using a 4x6 or 5x7 size. I clearly specify “no color corrections”. Of course, using your own photo printer provides a faster turnaround time when that’s important.

I have photography friends that are very happy with the canon photo printer recommended above. Good luck with your printer chase.

Has anyone tried the AI Clear - New Noise Reduction Tool by Topaz? What is your experience? Does it work with LR or PS? I have no intention of purchasing Topaz Studio.

Thank you all for your input. I learned a lot. Almost every solution works however speed is an issue for me. I have downloaded a free copy of Fast Raw Viewer. It seems to be exactly what I wanted. I will be using it more in the next several weeks and publish an evaluation then. Again thank you all.

My operating system is Mac and I have Adobe LR & PS subscription, which I like and have no desire to change. I shoot in raw with Sony E series cameras. However, I would like to quickly review and organize photos prior to uploading them into Lightroom for processing. Yes, I realize one can directly upload into Lightroom and then review and process; however that is not my preferred workflow. I had a recommendation to use Fast Stone and it seems like a perfect solution, but it doesn’t work with Mac OS. I need recommendations for a good and fast Mac OS photo viewer.

If you are shooting in low light or at night, you will need some stabilization. A monopod works the best; however a tripod with the legs together also works well. Keep in mind you will likely not have a lot of room and you don't want to risk someone tripping over your tripod legs. There is vibration on the ship that will likely cause problems at lower shutter speed settings. I agree, use your camera stabilization. I have also found that placing your tripod or monopod on your foot also removes some of the vibration. Place the pod on your toes and then lift your toes slightly when ready to shoot. It not perfect, but works for me. I have seen some people place one foot on the other to provide more cushion but it screws up your stability unless your bracing yourself.

My internal iMac disc storage is full. Photos take up most of the storage. My primary camera is a Sony A7ii and I shoot in raw format. I am thinking of storing all my photos on an external storage device. Is that a good solution and what solution or equipment would you recommend? I am concerned about the speed of transferring as well as retrieving data.

Since your are somewhat familiar with Sony. Investigate the Sony a6000. That should more than met your needs. It’s priced at about $500. You can likely find it for less. Great quality camera.

I make the third indorsement for Peak Design. It's very comfortable on or off the trail. It's easy to quickly remove the camera for tripod work without the strap. I replaced my Blackrapid carrier, which works, because the Peak Design more usable for my purposes. The Peak Design accommodates quick adjustments to strap length much easier, which is important if you are carrying the camera all day.
