Hello fellow gardener, very cool observation.

All aroids - Alocasia, Colocasia, Philodendron, Calla Lilies, Peace Lilies, Caladiums (which I see in the background of a couple of your pictures), and many more plants in the Araceae family all have similar blooms (spathe and spadix).

Try some Voodoo lilies (Amorphophallus 'Konjac' for example) for color but they stink to high heaven.

Was looking on line and found out there are Black Elephant Ears too. Will try some next spring in a different location.
In July a car plowed into our house across the EE's leaving oil on the stems. I cut them off about 12" high to remove the oil and had to move them so the porch steps could be rebuilt. They are currently 4.5-5 foot high

hc not a gardener just one who puts bulbs in the ground and tries to keep them watered.
I was not aware an Elephant Ear would bloom. Have had them for 6-7 years and this is the first time they have bloomed. Looks as if they start straight up rolled up and then lay over and open up. They are very pretty. Thanks for the info.

Was trimming dead leaves from my Elephant Ear Plants and saw some color. About the shade of a ripe melon. There were three blooms one of which had finished.
Absolutely gorgeous.

Does any program have direct E mail connect?

Thanks in advance!!

Mesa,
Have been through there several times. It is very beautiful just like your photo. If you are in a hurry don't go! As it was said the road is somewhat crude. It is my understanding that originally it was a bulldozer blade wide and was used to move livestock to and from the valley for summer grazing. My first trip was about 25 years ago--not my last. When crossing the country, I always made a stop at "Black Bart's Campground and Steakhouse" in Flagstaff their Steaks were cooked over oak and were delicious very different from being cooked over hickory. They used College students as servers and the servers also entertained their customers.

Vicky drives a very nice pink sprint car. She wanted some images to promote her and her car. I would suggest she must be very popular at the local race tracks.

Any pictures of her car that you can post?

The sky in the second picture is spectacular. Almost as if there was a spotlight on the church.
Very nice.
