Sir, you are mistaken. Linda DID SPECIFICALLY ASK if the received files could be edited.... here are her words:

"What I don't understand (I have never used WeTransfer before) is when they are received at the other end can anything be done with the photos and how are they received and can they be edited."

Maybe you would consider reading the post before correcting someone's reply, huh ??

Thank you for replying - I think what I have done wrong is - I edited all the photos in the develop mode and then I dragged and dropped then into our shared folder from there instead of exporting them, this was yesterday and by 9.00 this morning only a few had gone over, but when I checked the files had reverted back to the original as if I hadn't edited them, so frustrating. I checked a few of the photos and realised that they were all originals.

What I have done now is I have exported all of the files into a folder as Jpegs onto my desktop and as I type, and it has taken forever, I have used WeTransfer, I am doing about 14 at a time but they are successfully arriving at the destination.

You live and learn but I should have resized them to a smaller file size.

What I don't understand (I have never used WeTransfer before) is when they are received at the other end can anything be done with the photos and how are they received and can they be edited.

What we are both trying to do is my daughter and granddaughter want to create their own book of our trip to India and I will use Blurb to create my own at this end.

Thank you so much for trying to help me, it is really appreciated. Regards Linda

Linda, I use WeTransfer.com a lot. In the upload/ transfer process, the images are compressed into a zip file. When the recipient downloads them, they will have to "Extract" the file, which is the same as unzipping them. And yes, once they get the images they can edit them.

Lots of technical help here, not to mention the great "encouragement" factor.

Nice reply.

I use WeTransfer.com for this. You don't need to set up an account. It works great !!

just go to WeTransfer, upload the picture, enter the email address, and Send. Your daughter will get a link to be able to download the full size picture.

At the risk of showing my total status as a Novice (it is easier to admit this up front, then we get that behind us...), I want your help on comparing my wife's camera results with her Nikon 3100, compared with my Nikon 7200.

See the attached images. Both are at the same spot, taken within minutes of each other. Neither camera has a filter of any type. We both use aperture priority.

You can see that her picture has more color and contrast. To me, the shots cannot compare.. hers is much better. I have tried to compare our settings on both cameras. Have checked things like white balance, etc etc. There is no PP in either picture.

We find this outcome to be common... in general, her photographs are much better than mine.

Can some of you fine experts give me an idea of why we have this result ? I love the features of my camera and I know the potential for its use is huge, but I am both disappointed and perplexed about this obvious difference in image quality.

Thank you for any positive hints and advice.

Ok, I am very much a novice here, and I have more “camera” than I have experience / Nikon 7200. I take casual pictures for fun, and like to have larger prints made when I have a favorite picture.

I would like to find a post processing tool that is easy to learn, and will do the basics that I want. That is, to crop pictures, adjust color, re-sizing, embed titles on selected pictures, adjust contrast. I doubt that I will ever get into layers and those more fancy things. I very specifically do NOT want a program to organize or take control over pictures. So, maybe once a month I would want to improve the appearance of an image, or change the size, or add a title.

I can confess that I do know enough to know the obvious benefits of producing raw images, which allows more control in PP. That is one thing that I love about the 7200… I have one card saving regular .jpg’s, and the other saves them in raw for that special image that comes along once in a while.

I do have Photoshop Elements. I will admit that I have not spent much time with it, but I can say that I don’t find it intuitive.

So, here is my question. I am thinking about getting Light Room . My specific question is how do Elements and Light Room compare, in terms of doing the tasks that I want, and in terms of ease of use / learning curve ? Am I better off to spend some more time with Elements, or am I better off to try Light Room ?

Your thoughts and experience will be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I am looking for a high-quality display/ something large/ no smartphones. Perhaps the latest iPad with its large screen would be ideal, except for the fact that I have no other use for an iPad/ it looks like my other good option is to look for a very high resolution laptop with a screen of 12-15 inches. Again, I don't care to display pictures on a tiny smartphone.

again, thanks for the comments, which helps give me ideas....

What is your favorite/ preferred portable device that you use, at least partially to show off your digital pictures to friends ? For example, an iPad, tablet, netbook, or high resolution laptop ?

It seems that I read somewhere that the iPad has the very highest resolution of all such devices… do any of you know if that is true ?

What do you prefer, and why ?

thanks !!
