The last time I did all that to check my DoF the subject got tired of waiting and left.

Mirrorless forced the DSLRinosaurs out to pasture, when suddenly only mirrorless images are getting all the clicks, the likes, and the awards.

PhotoShop was a barrier to entry, both on cost and training / experience. And then, Adobe Lightroom showed you could do more in less time on 100x more images. But still, the PS die-hards man the barriers everyday claiming only PS can deliver anything acceptable, especially from a DSLR.

I beg to differ - my photos still get plenty of clicks and likes and awards. I am a looooong way from being out to pasture. Nor do I consider myself a dinosaur (or Rinosaur).

It's interesting that you get better mileage on the highway than in the city, since our Prius is the opposite. We have made two trips from Arizona to Minnesota and back (1500 miles each way) many trips from home to Phoenix and Tucson (about 270 miles each way) and our mileage is always higher in town where the engine shuts down when you stop or just goes to battery when driving less than 25 mph. I once had a short discussion with Consumer Reports about this same topic, after they reported the same kind of results for my Prius. I said my experience was the opposite of their results and they responded that they "...test their cars under all conditions," and so of course I was wrong, and could not possibly be getting better gas mileage when the engine wasn't even running as much or as hard...

Not sure why the difference. Around town the car switches to gas when accelerating so the stop and go uses more gas. Even though the battery charges when using the brake it doesn't quite catch up. On the highway on some trips we have gotten over 70mpg. It varies some because of wind (head or tail) and also rain will cost some mpg.

A friend is considering buying a hybrid and asked my opinion. I gave her some references, but I thought I'd ask for opinions here. Cost, operating expenses, and reliability are three areas of interest.

I have owned a Hyundai Ioniq for six years now and love it. Not a single problem with maintenance and well over 60mpg on the highway and between 50 and 60 around town. Mileage goes down some in the winter when we need the heater because that runs the gas engine a little more. Still get close to 60 on the highway even then.

I buy from Jan - Dec.

So do I. But I still don't make 240 trips to get 240 items.

This seems silly, but it's true in my case. Although I paid $150 for Amazon Prime, I still saved money by shopping online. I placed 240 orders with Amazon last year, and I get free shipping. If I drove into town, about forty miles round-trip, I would have driven 9,600 miles. Gas costs me about $0.07 per mile X 9,600 = $672, minimum.

That's only if you need 240 things and can't figure out how to get them without making 240 trips.

Define "proceeds"!....
They get a cut, NOT the whole price of the box of cookies!
The cut goes to the troop selling them.

The cut is about 75%. For each $4.00 the GSA keeps $3.00.

I wonder what kind of percentage of the price of cookies goes to the GS? I think very little. So I would give the GS money but I don't buy the cookies. May be I am wrong but I feel the cookies company takes advantage of the GS.

A quick google search tells me that 100% of the proceeds go to the GS. Not only that - the proceeds stay in the local community where the cookies were sold.

I know what you mean. It doesn't matter if a million people have a good experience if I have a bad experience. It's the exception, but it's still annoying. If a plane crashes and one person is killed, are the others going to say, "Gee, I was okay. I wasn't injured."

I understand that the one person is disappointed with their service. But if I have a bad experience I tend to report it back to the company in a review so they can address the problem (or not). I don't smear the company in public over one bad experience.

I've seen this type of comment here many times, and I recently saw it on nextdoor.com. A woman wrote a lengthy, detailed post about an awful experience she had with a local provider. People replied that they have never had any problems with that provider. The provider always gave them outstanding service. What's the point?

I see the same thing here. Someone describes a problem with a camera, and half a dozen others say they've never had a problem. What's the point? If you see someone stranded by the side of the road with a flat tire, would you drive buy and shout that your tires have never gone flat? People post problems here hoping that someone will have a solution.

It's not about the problem but about the poster trashing a business. I have seen many times here that someone has a problem and says B&H, Adorama or some other business has horrible customer service. The people who reply are simply defending a business that they have had a very good experience with.

A corollary to that is people posting duplicate solutions. Don't people read through the thread? If the solution one wants to post has already been posted by someone else, why post a duplicate?

I appreciate the enthusiasm of the folks here at UHH. But those duplicates make the threads lengthy for no reason.

That happens often because the first reply didn't appear on the screen when the next person started to reply. That has happened to me - after I sent my reply the first one showed up. Of course, if the second one was made an hour later then that is probably not the reason.
