That is all true, but I do not take my 200-500 mm lens or any lens out into the rain. But the Nikon at 500mm is proven sharper than the Tamron at any focal length. You should read all of the reviews Steve, they are there for a reason.
In addition, at trade in time or selling time, the Nikon will hold it's value much better than Tamron, if you question this, look at Ebay and you'll see it for yourself.
In addition, the Nikon 200-500 is made by Nikon for Nikon camera's.
Tamron is made to fit many camera's and not specifically designed to be used on any one camera.
In addition, Nikon makes it's own glass, from it's own molding system, Tamron buys from theirs from the lowest bidder.
Just sayin Steve, you know.

I would prefer a weather sealed lens. I’m aware of the resale value. I keep my glass for a long time. As far as the reviews go, some say the Nikon is better while others say the Tamron is better. Both companies manufacture their own glass.
There are many reason's for Tamron's low selling price.

On most safaris they get you fairly close to the subjects. No need to tie yourself to one focal length.
My suggestion, buy or rent the versatile, sharp at every focal length, Nikon 200-500 f5.6.
You will not have buyers remorse.

The Tamron has a longer reach and has weather sealing. The Nikon doesn’t have it.

I own a Nikon d750 and am planning a safari trip. Which lens would you recommend I buy? Tamron 150-600 G2, or the Nikon 500 f5.6? I understand that the zoom is versatile but the prime is much lighter and therefore easier to handle.

I have a Nikon D5600, went to the camera store and tried out the Tamron 150-600mm lens, It was great they did not have the Nikkor 200-500mm to try or the Sigma 150-600 back ordered. My problem is the weight for a short 4'11, 66yr old women. Is there a zoom lens combination I could get with sharpness & length similar to the super zooms without the weight, or am I out of luck?

Unfortunately super zoom lenses in that focal range are big and heavy. You could either try using one with a good monopod, or if you don’t require a zoom get the Nikon 500mm 5.6 pf lens.

Get the Nikon 35mm 1.8 DX. Great versatile lens for the money.

My first Nikon dslr was a d40 along with the 18-55 kit lens. After about a year I bought the 35mm f1.8 dx lens. I never used the kit lens after I bought the 35mm.

If you can somehow figure out a way to actually use the lenses you say you have, you should be able to figure out for yourself if you need another lens or not.

Yes I actually do have these lenses(and I know how to use them).I’m asking the question because I want feedback from those who have a 50 regarding the low light capabilities so I can decide if I want to get one. Your response makes you come across as a jerk.

I use the fifty quite a lot. Sharp as a tack. I have the Nikon 50mm 1.8 g

Does it perform well wide open or do you usually stop it down a bit?

I had a 50 f1.8 before I ever had a 2.8. Just playing around in the living room I found that the 50 sucks in a lot more light than a 2.8. It gives you that added possibility of shooting without flash indoors. I remember 50 years ago when the 50mm lens was the normal lens for photography. We just used our feet to zoom in or out. It worked. Ofc, we'd often have a zoom lens that would cover 80-300mm or something similar for sports. Those two lenses were all that were in the bag and all we needed (or I needed). For $135, go for it. If you're shooting dx, you might consider a 35mm. On a dx, I've found that a 50mm gives problems getting the entire dinner table in at holidays. No such problem on full frames.

When I had my d40, I had bought the 35mm f1.8 dx lens and never used the kit lens after that.

I shoot with a Nikon d750 and I already own a sigma 14-24 f2.8, Nikon 24-120 f4 vr, and Tamron 70-200 f2.8 g2 lenses. I used to just shoot portraits, but now I’m finding myself shooting a little of everything. Should I invest in a 50mm lens or am I wasting money by purchasing one?

What do you shoot with now? If I were you I would look at my current digital files to see what focal length range that I mostly shoot in to determine my lens requirements. Some people shoot a lot in the 36-105 equivalent range while others don’t. Only you can make that decision.

My first DSLR was the D40 when it came out in 2006. I used it exclusively for 12 years and then upgraded to the D750 in 2018. I’m so glad I did this. Huge upgrade.

Are you having buyers remorse just because of the weight of the lens or are there other reasons? Is the 24-70 a useful range for what you shoot? If it were me and the weight was the only issue, I would keep the lens and give myself time to get used to it. It sounds like you’re used to lightweight primes.

Hi , Thank you for your responses ,
I have a Tamron 70-200 G 2 that I love . I’m using a crop sensor camera . What would be better to buy ? The Tamron 150-600 G2 or the 2.0 Teleconverter? What have you folks used and what is better in your opinion. Looking for real life experience.
Thank you ,

I have the Tamron 70-200 G2 with the 2.0 teleconverter. The combo works well. I have no experience with the 150-600 G2 but I’m sure it’s probably sharper, it has more reach. I got the teleconverter to avoid getting a huge heavy lens.

I bought a NAS and installed two 4TB hard drives and have it setup as a mirrored configuration. This way, I won’t loose anything should a hard drive fail.

Stop using UV filters. They are useful with film and are unnecessary with digital.
