I usually buy frames cut and fitted from this outfit, and do the rest myself. But they might sell lengths of frame stock; I'd check because at least on cut and fitted frames they have some of the best pricing I've found.

I have ordered frame stock on occasion from this outfit. When I lived in the DC area there was a similar local supplier I could patronize. You have to buy a minimum of 18 feet of each stock (two 9 foot lengths), and they cut it to 4 and 5 foot lengths for shipping. http://123frame.net/pifrmobyle.html

You might also try some of the big art supply houses like Jerry's Artarama (https://www.jerrysartarama.com/) or Dick Blick (https://www.dickblick.com/)

If you're looking for unfinished wood, then a good millwork shop will likely have a much greater selection of mouldings than the big box stores, and can usually produce custom profiles (for a price of course).

Dimensional lumber just refers to lumber cut to standard sizes.

Such as in 54" pieces?
Thanks.

That link may have solved the problem so far I have checked out three of the companies: One sells pre made frames the second is in Australia, the third, https://framing4yourself.com, looks like it will fit the bill.
Thank you.

Try Michael's Craft Stores. Saw framing there on a recent visit.

Thanks but I don't think we have one nearby and I want the raw materials to make the frame.

Try Hobby Lobby or a similar type of store. Maybe Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks. I have already tried Hobby Lobby and rheir prices are higher than I want to spend and they do not sell the moulding to make frames.
Checked out the local Lowes nothing there.

Check Amazon. They have pre-finished molding, but not cheap. Also some woodworking supply companies sell picture frame finished molding. If you have a woodworking shop, you can make your own, or you can buy it unfinished from lumber supply companies and finish it yourself.

Thanks TriX I'll take a look into lumber companies.

I am trying to buy moulding to make my own picture frames but am having no luck. I have been able to find that CountryArtHouse does do what I want but have been unable to find a way to contact them.
If anyone know where to buy picture frame moulding please let me know.

I’m going to have two a 24x16 metal prints done for a friend and I have a few questions.
One image is 7621 x 5081 MP that equals 317 ppi which is well above, what most consider, the 300 ppi ideal target. The second however was cropped deeper and measures 5265 x 3510 MP or 219ppi. What is the opinion of those who know more that I do, about the quality of the print done at 219ppi? I can run it through Gigapixel x2 but worry that it might become muddy or waxy as some seem to think can happen. These will hang in a private home and most likely be viewed from 3 to 8 feet away.

One book that I have read said that paper prints can be done as low as 150px/in. I don't know but I have to mention that I have met a person who has said that he has printed down to 120px/in. He also said that it must be a very high quality picture to print at a low resolution.
For metal you may want to talk to an expert with this media.

Two questions.

1. If your image from the camera is 27" how many pixels long is it?

Just wondering. --Richard

8256x5504px @ the standard print resolution, 300 dots per inch, to be exact or in other word a Nikon D850.

Here when preparing to print I look for a raw pic to prepare for printing Edit it and when satisfied load it into the Printed directory after printing I move the file into the directory of the appropriate size that it has been printed. My images out of camera are 27" on the long side. Three of these folders are of the same aspect ratio so adjusting the size by changing the resolution not the size of the file comes in handy. the 24x36 folder is empty being satisfied with the image and if it sells at a smaller size I may increase the dimensions of the image and then move the image into that folder.

That would be cheating, even more so than giving them their own folder !

As apparently the fugitive jpegs were created as a batch, sorting their current folder by date would also be cheating ...

Cheating is fair.

8. The reduced display uses a JPG to display the histogram. This is why you should never trust this many times cursed thing.

One way to palliate this is to use the universal white balance UWB. It will still display 8 EV, but it will be closer to the truth as the sensor records green (RGBG so two green channels). This is also behind the reasoning of using ETTR or the use of blinkies when looking at the display.

Thanks, so with a 14.8 dynamic range on the sensor there will be a large amount of dynamic range not displayed in the histogram.
If the blinkys are shown in the histogram isn't that also 8 EVs?

ON the histogram how many EVs are displayed. According to DxO Labs the sensor has a range of 14.8 EVs. According to Nikon when shooting raw you have extra area outside the histogram that can be used that is not over exposed or under exposed.
This would be helpful since for each reduction of 1 EV from brightest going downward 50% of the colors or tones are lost.
