Not to butt in, but to minimize wear on your vinyl, I’d try 1-1/2 G if your arm and cartridge will track at that weight. If not, try 2G.

Yeah I checked with my friend who also had the Stanton cartridge and he confirmed the specs called for 3 grams…which was indeed heavy compared to its peers. He said he lowered the weight to 2 grams and it worked fine and it could have been even less without affecting the Shure tone arm’s tracking.

Nice setup - the tracking force seems a bit high - do you find that necessary?

To the best of my questionable memory that was what the specs called for. I sold my vinyl setup for a pittance a few years ago when my hearing started getting lousy. I now rely on cd’s and YouTube Music. Not as good sound but at least I can pull up just about every concert and song I ever liked.

I have a Technics SL220 turntable that I've had for probably 30 to 40 years and it still works well. I have no idea what I paid for it but it was certainly equivalent to the prices of the ones referenced here.

That’s a good point. My turntable, tone arm and cartridge cost around $400 back in 1973 when I bought them. I guess that’s about $4,500 in today’s dollars. Funny; back then I was living on peanut butter, salad and eggs, having very little income, but I had the best damn sound money could buy. You know, priorities!

I'd be suspicious of (very expensive) gimmickry. There were tables in the '70's that didn't rely on gravity but they never won out over traditional tables & tone arms because of inconsistent tracking. I had a Thorens table with the Shure SME high track arm and a Stanton 681EE cartridge that perfectly tracked deep in the center of the groove and kept a constant 3 gram pressure. Its sound still beats any digital format. I suppose the Miniot might appeal to a rich Millennial who wants to impress his/her friends but who doesn't know any better.

Great set! Pure Americana! As fast food restaurants close down because people are rejecting their overcharging for tasteless food, let's hope places like this continue to thrive.

My cat stares at me like that for no reason, all the time. I ask him "Do you want to go out"? "Do you want food?" "What do you want?"

(no response)

I think he's just messing with me.

Here Jerry; add this to your collection:

Schrodinger was driving home from the physics lab when he encountered a roadblock. A cop walks up to him and explains, "A prisoner escaped from a local jail and we're searching all the cars."

After looking in the rear seat the cop asks, "What's in the trunk?"

"Nothing" Schrodinger replies, "Just my cat."

"Well open it up" the cop says, "I have to look."

Schrodinger pops the trunk lid. The cop walks around to the back of the car and looks inside.

"Hey!" yells the cop, "Do you know your cat's dead?"

"Well sure..." responds Schrodinger, "...now"

Wow! Well if you change your mind, make sure you wear latex gloves and KN95 mask when you accept it and maybe run it through an autoclave before you touch it with your bare hands.

Well captured! I visited Saguaro National Park some years ago and as a New Englander, I expected just a lot of sand and rocks with a few stray cactuses. Instead, I found a surprisingly dense variety of plants. While the plants are certainly adapted to hot, dry conditions, the desert is lush in it's own way and your image shows that nicely.

OMG that's a '57 Olds Super 88; the car I learned to drive in. It was a friggin' tank; I can't believe anyone could turn it into a race car!

A move both insanely funny and chillingly predictive. In the 18 years since it was made, and looking at today's political situation, I think we've moved considerably closer to it's depiction of where humanity is headed.

I must have listened to this a thousand times. My favorite version is when she transitions to the Itsy Bitsy Spider with the kids chorus.
Thanks for sharing.

In the '80's, MTV ran that entire concert she gave at Martha's Vineyard where she lives. Comin' Around/Itsy Bitsy Spider was a great performance and those were her (and James Taylor's?) kids who came out and sang with her.

What; the gray top didn't draw enough attention? This ad's been gracing my screen for a while. It took me several weeks before I realized she was pointing at something.
