Logos,

Very useful information - Some of your suggestions I was already following (like 180 degrees from the sunset) and I will give the others a try in future outings. I became interested in night photography after seeing the work of one of my fellow photo club members and now I am hooked! I am lucky that Houston and some surrounding areas are a"target rich environment" for night time captures. The attachment is the first night shot I kept (after pp)Thanks for sharing the info and keep shooting!

I like the star effects in the lights. How did you do that?

I wish I could say it was planned!
I shot this in raw-28mm focal length- iso400-f22 @25sec on a tripod-pp in lightroom where I changed the wb to tungsten and added a little clarity, etc
Some time its better to be lucky than good(I dont claim to be either!)

My 2 cents from past experience. Concentrate and learn to master one program at a time.

LR is great and suggest you master it with the book by Scott Kelby. Then go to Elements to complement LR. After you feel comfortable with these two add additional programs.

Good luck and enjoy.

Sound advice! Learning these two programs should cover most if not all of the non-pro's needs.

Not sure if I posted this before, but it's cropped to about one-eighth of of the original image using a Sigma 150-500 on a Canon 5D Mark II

Awesome capture.... What an expression!
Rented a Canon 100-400 for the Monterey Motorsport Reunion...it did the job!

We'll have to see those great things you mentioned next time. I love your photo, beautiful composition.quote=bbboomer]Great captures!
The Missions are beautiful .
I was born and raised in San Antonio.
It is apart of Texas with a lot of history and beauty.
Did you visit Brakenridge Park, the Sunken Gardens,or ride the Eagle, once billed as the longest miniture railroad in the world.
Another plus is that a day trip in any direction will net you some of the most beautiful scenery in Texas.
Thanks for sharing!

This should be in general discussions but here goes. My facebook friends said that if I called them republitards I lost my credibility.

OK
Just wait, any minute now we will all be flooded with cash from the trickle down economics, just wait, wait a little longer. Reagan promised it would happen, just keep waiting. Because the Reagan told us so.

These are not republitards they are highly Intelligent people.
OK these are the intelligent republicans.
Rep. Todd Akin: on legitimate rape, very smart and intelligent. Google "legitimate rape" I'm not making this up.
Where did they get the outrageous idea of lying Ryan? Google lying Ryan, I'm not making this up!
47% of you are deadbeats and don't pay your share of taxes , tell that to GE and Romney. I'm not making this up!
Sarah Palin. What she says makes no sense whatsoever I mean she watches Russia "As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border."
Sarah Palin is a goldmine of stupid. Google her quotes, I'm not making this up
And then there is Ann coulter, "If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president. It's kind of a pipe dream, it's a personal fantasy of mine, but I don't think it's going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women. It also makes the point, it is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it's the party of women and 'We'll pay for health care and tuition and day care -- and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?'"
Google this I'm not making this up, not only women fought for womens right to vote. OK defend this statement

Then toss in Michele Bachmann, Rep. Michele Bachmann says the Muslim Brotherhood, the international Islamist movement that recently came to power in Egypt, has made “deep penetration” within the U.S. government, and she wants an investigation of its influence within five federal agencies.
Is she crazy or insane, Bachmann is insane! Her homophobic and now Muslim-phobic nature has absolutely no business being present in our government. I'm not making this up, Google this. I know many Muslims and they are awesome people, not a violent bone in their body.

OK we have more intelligent republicans, the best we have?
Here is Rick Perry "I will tell you: It's three agencies of government, when I get there, that are gone: Commerce, Education and the -- what's the third one there? Let's see. ... OK. So Commerce, Education and the -- ... The third agency of government I would -- I would do away with the Education, the ... Commerce and -- let's see -- I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops." –Rick Perry, experiencing an epic onstage meltdown during a GOP debate, forgetting about his plan to cut the Department of Energy, Nov. 9, 2011
WE REALLY NEED TO GET RID OF EDUCATION!
OK there is more.
Hermain Cain, another hopeful, Quote: "OK, Libya. [pause] President Obama supported the uprising, correct? President Obama called for the removal of Gadhafi. I just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same thing before I say, 'Yes, I agreed' or 'No I didn't agree.' I do not agree with the way he handled it for the following reason — nope, that's a different one. [pause] I gotta go back and see. I got all this stuff twirling around in my head. Specifically, what are you asking me that I agree or not disagree with Obama?" (Nov. 14, in response to a question from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial board)
OK he is stupid and his response? we don't need a reader we need a leader. WTF!

Let's be honest, if you don't like Muslims, blacks, gays, immigrants or other minorities, which political party would make you feel most comfortable? Sure, some Republican officials are minorities, but a recent Galllup survey found that 89% of the Republican Party is white.

To be clear, I don't believe that most rank-and-file members of the Republican Party hate Muslims. The problem is that certain Republican leaders have stoked the flames of hate toward American Muslims, and other minorities, as a political tool to motivate people to support their cause.
Source http://articles.cnn.com/2012-08-29/opinion/opinion_obeidallah-gop-muslim-problem_1_american-muslims-muslim-brotherhood-muslim-american
For example, recently Rep. Michele Bachmann -- along with four other Republican House members -- asserted that the Muslim Brotherhood had infiltrated the U.S. government. Bachmann, who is in a tough re-election battle in her redrawn congressional district, even "named names" by claiming that Secretary Hillary Clinton's top aide, Huma Abedin, and Rep. Keith Ellison were connected to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Although Republican Sen. John McCain publicly denounced Bachmann's baseless allegations, just a few weeks later, Republican Rep. Joe Walsh escalated the fear-mongering. Walsh, who is in a tight race with Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth, told constituents at a town hall meeting in the Chicago suburbs that there are radical Muslims living among them who are plotting to kill them: "One thing I'm sure of is that there are people in this country -- there is a radical strain of Islam in this country -- it's not just over there -- trying to kill Americans every week." Walsh even claimed that this Muslim radical was in his district: "It's in Elk Grove. It's in Addison. It's in Elgin. It's here."
I know many Muslims and not a single one that I have met is anti American.

Ann Coulter says Not all Muslims may be terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims, Timothy McVey must not have been a terrorist. Ann are you just stupid?

OK on to the new voter ID rules,
This weekend, Pennsylvania Republican House Leader Mike Turzai (R-PA) finally admitted what so many have speculated: Voter identification efforts are meant to suppress Democratic votes in this year’s election.
Google this, I'm not making this stuff up.
And anyone (republicans) complaining about the deficit should read this http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/04/29/971489/-Reagan-Proved-Deficits-Don-t-Matter

I now believe that republicans are the smartest people on earth. NOT!

I love the uglyhedgehog and I love this country and hope I don't get kicked off for this post.

To me what republicans are saying is lunacy to say the least.
If you are a republican, please help me make sense of this.
This should be in general discussions but here goe... (show quote)

If those mentioned were "republitards" they would all equal one Democrat .....Joe Biden

Thank you for that. I read about back-button focus a few days ago, but couldn't find it on my 550D. Now I have set the custom function, I look forward to trying this focussing method.
