My advice: load up on RAM. To cut costs, if need be, lower the storage and add a Thunderbolt or other brand of external hard drive for your pix.

I am looking for best quality Micro 4/3 or APS; light weight enough to carry; range of available lenses (wide angle zoom, macro, fast normal), and the best possible image quality, for large blow-ups; shooting mostly nature, scenic, street, macro. As close to DSLR quality as possible. Thanks.

The reason I recommended the Olympus EM-1 is that you said you were looking for "best quality" and "as close to DSLR quality as possible." It was not because, as was implied in one of the posts, that the responses were based only on what we have... therefore, think you must have it too. The EM-1 is the best Oly has to offer, and provides the widest range of lenses since it works with Panasonic lenses as well, not to mention the older 4/3 lenses (with an adapter). The EM-5, and I imagine the EM-10, are excellent cameras, but the EM-1 is their top of the line. Good luck!

Noticing that you haven't received any responses... have you tried the u43 forum? It's an excellent source for mirrorless devotees. You mentioned that you posted on another forum, and I wondered which one. DP Review also has a mirrorless forum. Good luck!

Fun, powerful camera. Slap a 14 or 20mm prime on there and you have quite the ninja camera. Get yourself a Gordy wrist strap and ditch the Olympus neck strap.

Agreed.

Olympus has the E-M1 on sale through tomorrow for $1300. Haven't checked, but I'm sure Adorama and B&H has it for that price as well.

I perused this fairly quickly, so if this has been answered already, please forgive me.

Since you have a couple of Zuiko lenses, take a look at the fairly new Olympus OMD E-M1. It has fast focusing and will accept your older Oly lenses. That way, you can use them rather than sell them, which might be the same thing as giving them away. And, it gives you a way of staying connected with your late father. Retail on the O-M1 is $1400.

This is a Micro 4/3 camera, so if that doesn't mean anything to you, I would encourage you to research it.

Good luck!

I do, but I'm sworn to secrecy like you. I'll give you one easy clue; it is not in Edinburgh!

Troon? Maybe Iona. Possibly St. Andrews.

Does that mean they were hiding in the near vicinity of Long Island, NY? :-)

Olympus has a 20% discount this weekend. A refurbished E-M5 is going for just over $500. Pretty sweet deal. Would leave you some money for glass.

O.S.O.K., I was on my way to work one day when I spied our local Party City going up in spectacular flames. Without my DSLR, I got no pictures. Neither did the press or - strangely - the employees of a camera shop less than a block away. I began my research for a small camera that would fit in my briefcase and decided on the Olympus OMD E-M5. Haven't seen a burning building since, but I've gotten some great pictures!

You might consider one of the Olympus m4/3 cameras that have built-in IBIS. That's an acronym for their ability to control shaky hands.

Have noted of late several members asking others to assist in identifying birds. If you have an iPhone or iPad, I recommend an app called Merlin. Developed by Cornell University, it is very helpful in bird identification. Answer five or so questions having to do with location, size, color, etc, and a group of possibilities are provided. The pictures are clear and are tied to where you spotted the bird. The app is free, and an Android version will be available soon. Give it a try. I think you'll be glad you did. I'm certainly enjoying it.
