X-Ray was bad for film. Scanners could be bad for magnetic tape. Digital memory cards are not bothered by either.

Yep! I've had memory cards Xrayed, Magnetically scanned and even washed and dried in the laundry! No problem. The only memory card problem I've ever encountered was physically losing MircoSD cards, My tablet ejects them enthusiastically, If you're not careful it'll fling them 15 feet, No fun if you're outdoors!

My advice for video recording generally is 64gb. More if your camera will take it, Video (even old school DVD quality) video uses up a lot of "space". It's best to get the highest capacity and fastest speed card recommended by your camera's manufacturer. I usually carry multiple small cards for still cameras, but use biggies on video cameras. Also buy only reputable brands like SanDisk.

I second this response. Loudparker, if you do not like a topic, skip it. Do not just try to drag it down. No matter what level you are on, someone here is on a higher level and could apply the same logic in replying to anything you could think to post.

A little humility goes a long way.

The OP has every right to post this question. I would argue that answering these posts constructively is what this forum is all about.

Yep, Just because something has been asked and answered before doesn't mean there's no one new to the game. Here we are in the 4K video era and there's a YouTube video about: How to drive a Model "T" Ford. (for non antique car folk, shifting a "T" is "different" to say the least.) Now there's a thing asked and answered since 1909, Half of US drivers knew how to do it at one point! now it's only hobbyists that do, Newbies will need advice. We as hobbyists should give that advice or we risk turning people off and killing our hobby for lack of "new blood", Plus New software comes along - Even those of us "in the know" might find something new.

Not to sound snarky, but you are not required to answer a request for info. There are many times I either read others suggestions. Perhaps learning something new or just move on.

I have been using GIMP. The advantages are that it is Free, it is available for Windows or McIntosh or Linux and there are a LOT of Utube tutorials and books are available. Like Photo Shop, it will do a lot more than most people will ever think of doing. If you ever get into HDR work, then Photomatix is good and will do some basic things in addition to HDR processing. Cost is about $100 but upgrades are free and there are not subscription deals to enter into.

Agree on GIMP! It's about as "powerful" as most users will ever need, it's free and will run on any personal computer OS. People will say that there is a "learning curve", But hey, ALL software (even old MS-Paint) needs to be learned! Since it available on Linux,Windows and MacOS there's a large base of users to get help from.

Bingo!.......You got it in one. The 'option' key was the culprit. Many years ago I stupidly shot half my left hand pinky finger off leaving just a stub. As a two finger typist with arthritic hands, there's a tendency for that stub to sometimes engage that option key. Thank you so much for your short, sweet answer.

Let me take this opportunity to apologize for having placed this query in the wrong section, mea culpa, what's the punishment, 20 lashes, death? Isn't 'sorry' enough?

Doesn't seem to be in the wrong section, This section is NON photography, So computer questions are valid here.

I’m actually quite find of these quizzes. Quite a few of them, on various topics, have place me at the “genius” level. These certifications, however, have no standing with my wife when I offer them in defense of my views in our “discussions”☹️

IKR! 😀

Got all but a couple "modern" pieces. IMHO all of Jackson Pollock's paintings could be titled "My Garage Floor after Painting all of My Wooden Furniture" for all i know (or care)

Well, this is just my way, but I would take a half dozen 16gb cards. Just keeping the eggs in different baskets and having enough room for all my shots.

For DOS, that is all it could originally address. Then 1MB, later extended memory for Windows. You know that I'm sure.

Also remember 640k was 10x what most "home computers" had when Bill said that! The original "professional" IBM-PC only had 16k (yep, 16 Kilobytes!!!- And a cassette tape port!) installed as standard, although many shipped with 256k (fully populated RAM sockets on motherboard) Beyond 256k required expansion cards. The statement was less silly than it sounds now.

You did good for 1st attempt. Only critique is I would recommend cropping the bottom part of photo to eliminate the center rock and the rock in the right corner. You don't need them and they just pull one's eye away from the main subject which is the waterfall

I had to look again, As I like the whole scene, but different eyes see different details,(many times I see something I dig in a photo is NOT the main subject!) Your suggestion is valid, That very minor crop would refocus the eye!
