I have been trying hard to get myself to use Costco.
I live 27 miles from the store.
How can I justify the cost. There is the yearly fee, 54 mile round trip, when Walmart and Target is just a 2 minuet drive.
I do my own printing.

We live 20 miles from the nearest store or gas station. We signed up for Amazon Prime and get free two day shipping, free movies, special pricing, and we don't even have to leave the house. I have PSE 14 and two 8GB memory sticks showing up tomorrow from them. And the UPS driver is a sweetie!!! Well, the other driver is sweaty, but he is funny.

A huge congrats on your first Eagle shot, Norman, and a great shot it is!! And now I'm envious. My only Eagle shots are of birds a mile away. :-D

Thank you, Donna! This one came to me, I didn't have to chase it at all. :-D

Very nicely captured Norman! Must have used that 500mm lens?

Bob

Thank you, Bob. I used the 500mm and a TC17ii on my D610 and still had to crop quite a bit.

I wondered what all of the birds in the neighborhood were talking about this morning. Managed to get a couple of quick shots while he sat on a telephone pole. I brought my little cat inside just in case.

The essence of this thread has been slightly edited, and placed in the Frequently Asked Questions and Answers section at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-383871-1.html

Eventually, photographic examples will be added to the FAQ&A, and the text tweaked a bit, as the OP refines his subject.

 Just subscribed to this forum. Didn't even know it was there. Thank you, Douglass.

Try this in regards to clipping http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/histograms1.htm and this http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2500271

And yes, it does reduce noise in the shadows and from what I have seen, it reduces it overall, especially at higher ISOs when you have to use them.

If I can come to a basic understanding of how this works, anyone should be able to. It's really not complicated, some of the more technical folks can make it seem so (as with any other aspect of photography). Do not over think it and try not to be confused with all the arguments that's been going on over ETTR/EBTR lately ;)

I thought that this covered it pretty well https://photographylife.com/exposing-to-the-right-explained

I have been reading several of these threads and trying to apply it. One thing I am not sure of is the term 'clipping'. Is that the same as 'noise'? Or is clipping over exposure? And does ETTR help to reduce the noise in the shaded areas? This is one complicated subject and I am trying to get it all sorted out in my head. ;)

Brother, you can't have m D810s ! :) Whenever my health improves, heck, I might even put them to use !
No Hasselblad for me ! Too much money and too much camera for this poor boy and Nikon D810s are all that this guy will need for the remainder of his lifetime.. Have yet to see a camera any better.....

Hope you start feeling better soon. And I have to agree with you about the D810. I have had mine for a little over a month now and it is the best camera I have ever owned! Still trying to get used to the controls, they are a lot different than my D610 and I fumble around a lot trying to remember how to set it.

Never saw "dilemna" before. According to Google Ngram Viewer, it has not been in common usage since at least 1800. Usage is so low, it might just be a misspelling of dilemma.

Both of my parents were school teachers as I was growing up. I was one of those kids who always had his nose buried in a book, and the books I read were those that my parents had at our home, many of them were very old from their childhood. The spelling with the double 'm' still looks wrong to me to this day. I spell it with the 'n' when I write it. Such a dilemna!
