I hope the D7200 comes out soon, so that the price drops on the D7100 & I can get a second one. Maybe in time for Santa to bring me one.😇 Then I can regift my D90 to my wife😈

Bill,

Just to be clear, you were the one who asked why the D7200 didn't appear in September as you had believed someone who told you it wouldÂ…I didn't ask that. Other than passing academic interest, I care less when the D7200 will appear. I'm happy with my D7100 and if/when I advance, it probably won't be just a step.

My suggestion was for you to check with your source and see if they could give you more current information.

D7100 would be an upgrade but not the D5300. My first DSLR was a D90, I have since added a D7100. The D90 & D5300 were available at the same time with the D90 being the higher end camera. So if anything the D90 would be an upgrade to the D5300. Better take a closer look at the features of both. Back when I was looking for my first DSLR a friend of mine showed me his new D5300, I did some research & desired to spent the extra money for the D90, after which my friend wished he had to. The D7000 wasn't even enough of an upgrade to get me into a new camera let alone a D5300!!!

My sincere heartfelt thanks to all who responded with a strong outpouring in favor of the d90. Seems as tho it may be one of history's great classic cameras. At this moment I'm leaning toward getting the d90, altho "Flyfishin" makes an excellent point regarding the features of the d5300. This forum proves Every Single Day the positive benefits of a group effort to support photography. Thanks again, my good friends!

Don't do it.
D810 is a great camera but it is a FF. Using DX lenses on that thing makes no sense at all.
The D7100, a DX camera, is a better fit and you will have $$$ to spare to go somewhere else than in your backyard.

When it comes to sensors, the D7100 native DX is superior to the D810 used as a DX.

Side by side for other comparisons...

I to started with a D90(1st DSLR) & moved up to a D7100, never looking back. The upgrade was like coming from a film SLR to the D90. The 7100 is so much faster (love the 51 point auto focus). No more knocking the mode dial with new dial lock. I took the money saved & purchased a Nikon 300mm F4 W/ a 1.4 converter shortly thereafter. What a differance over D90 W/ a Nikon 70 to 300. So unless you plan on upgrading all your DX lens, I believe you're wasting your money. Being in one of the top bird migration hot spots in N. A. (Holiday Beach , Ontario Canada) the 300 mm F4 has not come off the D7100 since the bird migration started back in the beginning of Sept. The D90 is currently back up with all my other lens. PS know anybody looking for nice clean D90 or trade in on another D7100? Good luck in your decision & enjoy that new camera as much I am enjoying my new D7100

I currently have a D90 and looking to update. All my lenses are DX format with my favorite lens being the Nikon 18 to 300MM 5.6. Can I use this lens on a D810 in the cropped mode, and if so, would the quality of the image be same, better or worse than if I shot it with a D7100?

Why not add DIY section to main page as only way to find DIY projects is under advanced search? Appears members have DIY projects, but no section to see them all together.

Easier yet, pick up some foam pipe rap/insulation at local hardware store & rap around tripod/monopod legs. Soft on your shoulders & warm on your hands in cold weather!

Walking around with a tripod can be awkward, especially when setting up for a quick shot. My solution is to leave the camera attached to the tripod and to have the tripod set at a comfortable working height. A small foam pad on my shoulder and I am able to carry tripod and camera in one hand or on my shoulder.

Why not use focus indicator in viewfinder (left side) 7100 manual page 37,76,78?

Funny you should mention the manual focus lens. I'm seriously considering getting a Katzeye (spelling) split screen focus put on my D-7000, to see if I like it enough to put on my soon to be D-7100. My wife and I were discussing how much I missed the manual focus from the "old days" and she asked me why I just don't do it now. Other than the eyesight not being what it was, I had no good answer. I think the focus screen will help.

The advantages (at least to me) are that I won't get it such a hurry, it will take me back to my film days. I still try to compose every shot carefully, but with some of the technology, I find myself getting lazy, and just get it close, and shoot. (like the kids do these days) I know digital film is free, but taking the time to cull through several shots, is NOT free.

If I don't like it, I can always put the D-7000 back the way it was. I just need to get the guts to change it myself.
Funny you should mention the manual focus lens. I... (show quote)

Waste of money, first one I tried didn't work at all. Contacted Nikon support who recommended returning it. Replacement didn't work either. Went thru manual & found that you have to go into settings & turn on feature. THANKS tech support failing to mentioning this!! Maybe they didn't know about it because it wasn't in the instructions with the adapter.

Now adapter will light up & show WIFI. Every time I took a picture tablet would loose connection. Packed second adapter back up faster then the first one & returned to Amazon.

Thank you Amazon for your great customer service & free return policy.

Now looking at WI-FI memory cards. Any one have better luck with them?

I have a Nikon D7100 and am thinking of acquiring a WIFI wireless mobile adapter. I would be interested to hear others experience with this,(too bad Nikon did not include it with the camera. I would have paid the extra dollars for the convenience.)
Really enjoy checking in daily and following the "Hog". You guys have taught me a lot. Thanks.
