The best solution to this problem is to never patronize Disney again.

In conjunction with H1-B abuse, Disney raised their prices. They join Google, Apple, Microsoft and other corporations in lobbying the government to raise the H1-B visa cap.

At the risk of appearing as a grammar dork, plural dates do not take an apstrophy except when they are used in the possessive form e.g.,
"the 1950's rock and roll era."

At the risk of appearing as a spelling dork, that would be "apostrophe".

I appeal to some semantics expert to set us straight on the proper plural for more than one lens.

Generally geographically dependent. In New Jersey the singular would be, "I lens youse 20 dollars." Plural: "I lenses youse twice now, where's my money?"

Be happy that you have a girlfriend who enjoys your avocation. She'll actually appreciate it when you buy new his-and-hers lenses on special occasions.

We are having a little family competition this weekend learning to use Nikons off the automatic settngs. I am behind on the learning curve and need some advice. I have a Nikon D7100 with a 18/200 lens as does my husband..I do have a tripod. We will be shooting at the"golden" hour when the full moon rises in TN around 8 pm Friday evening (in the dark countryside). There might me a treeline to compose with.Wearher forecast indicates clear skies. I doubt we will have time to photogragh the eclipse due to our schedules unfortunately. Any pointers would be appreciated
Thanks in advance ..

The 200mm will be your largest handicap and you'll want to crop in a little tighter in post processing. Make sure you go to "mirror up" mode before taking the shot. The key (as I learned half-way through the process) is to use spot metering on the moon itself. I used the 18-300mm Nikkor lens on my D7100 and this was my capture of the progressive blood moon last year:

Repeat: let's see some images. If you are telling me that one can not see the difference in this thread that raises some interesting issues doesn't it? All you RAW shooters, put up or shut up.

No, *you*put up or shut up. It's not up to those who shoot raw (note that I'm not shouting it) to post pictures for the purpose of proving to you what they've gained in experience. Experience it for yourself. Then, if you'd care to, post what you've found. If someone gives you tips based on their experience, give those tips a try. Or don't. It's simply arrogant to say, "Prove it!" Get over yourself.

I was trying to decide what to take on my Maui trip myself. I have decided, after some suggestions here, that I am renting a 18-300mm for my 7100. Even though I wanted to keep equipment to a minimum, I will also be taking a 10-24mm f3.5-4.5. And since it's so small, I'm throwing in the 50mm f1.4 in hopes of catching some Luau shots.

You can save yourself the hassle of carrying so much equipment. Everything here was shot on Oahu with my 7100 and the 18-300, it's the only lens I took:

I find it very easy to see the different meanings when the context changes.

I would think you have no problem with all the pretty colors, either. Settle back into your cloudy haze, light up a fresh one, and enjoy.

Puffing won't help you understand language or communications.

Serious study will...

Thank you, professor for emphasizing how ego stroking this "specialized" terminology actually is for some here. Explaining that "100% Crop" is shorthand for "each pixel in the image is represented by one pixel on your viewing device without resizing" would have sufficed, but then that would have killed your opportunity for a superiority lecture.

You are not displaying a fine enough understanding of language. It just does not work that way.

A "100% crop" is not just two words, and you cannot relate the meaning of the phrase to the dictionary definitions. It is a term of art. The meaning is related to several words not spoken, and to the context from which the original word set originated.

That is not an unusual circumstance, and is not only common in all walks of life it is also one of the most significant reasons for languages to evolve.

Wow. Take another puff and pass it around. "Artfully", of course.

Crop: to cut.

100%: all; everything; the whole.

100% Crop: cut everything, i.e., nothing is left.

"100% crop" is a poor choice of phraseology for the concept that's being conveyed. If it wasn't, if it was clear, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I agree. 1:1 crop makes sense. To me a 100% crop should mean NO CROP it is 100% of the image as captured. The use of a percent to mean a 1:1 is just plain peculiar.

I mean, what does a percentage have to do with this at all?

I agree 110%.

How about this everyday conversation;

'How are you', (or equivalent)

'I'm good'

You may be fine, well, feeling happy, BUT it is up to me, or others to decide whether you are 'good' since that is a value judgement you cannot sensibly make about yourself!

Worse is when someone doesn't answer reflexively and actually tells you how they're feeling.

I, too, got to manual mode as quickly as I could because I'd read that's how "true professionals" shoot. Turns out, full manual can also be a waste of your camera's capabilities.

Know your camera. For example, I know that my D810 will freeze the great majority of action shots when I shoot a rodeo at 1/500. At 1/1000 it's guaranteed to stop motion.

I know that my 50mm prime will get me very shallow depth of field - and great shots - when I'm shooting a wedding.

I know that I can expect significant noise at ISO settings starting around 2500.

So, for action shots I go S, for most everything else, A, priority. I let the camera handle everything else, including the ISO. It will tell me what value it's selected and if it's higher than I want, I'll make a change or tolerate the noise I know is coming. It will also allow me to set a maximum ISO but doing that will reduce my flexibility. What little tweaking remains can easily be handled in post because I shoot raw exclusively.

You're right, checking and double-checking and tweaking settings on-the-fly takes up valuable time you may not have for a particular shot. Even with my semi-auto method I've over-exposed more shots than I'd care to admit because I was in a hurry and didn't pay enough attention to the camera's exposure meter. Those sort of issues are minimized with time and experience.

So, know your equipment. Know what parts of the act of shooting you can safely delegate to the camera for a given shoot and what parts are better for you to control. Don't be afraid to exploit the technology for which you've paid good money :-).

Don't miss going to Jerome AZ. A very interesting town. King mining company is a BLAST to visit and shoot pics.

We were in Jerome this past Saturday:

Considered getting a meal at the Haunted Hamburger but it was so crowded we opted for The Jerome Bordello instead. We were the only ones in there so I worried that others knew something we didn't. What we learned is that they serve up *outstanding* fare and we'll definitely be going back (see the picture caption).
