I appeal to some semantics expert to set us straight on the proper plural for more than one lens.
I'm no expert but lenses sounds right to me

One lens
Multiple lenses
lense as singular is listed in some dictionaries as an alternate spelling but not by most of the major dictionaries.
Or as those who want to sound like "real in crowd photographers" would put it "I gotta lota glass."

Correct grammar and etymology are hobbies of mine. I guarantee you that lens is singular and lenses is plural.

Most people don't care about using standard English (written or spoken) and it's not taught in our schools and colleges anymore. If it isn't caught by spellcheck then it must be OK.
However, I recommend for those that may care:
1) The Elements of Style by William Strunk, Jr. and E.B. White,
Macmillian Publishing Co., Inc. New York (several editions)
2) The Harbrace College Handbook by John Hodges and Mary Whitten, Harcourt Brace & World, Inc. , New York
(also many editions)
Hey, this was just hammered into me by my mom, who was an
English teacher and editor. Folks used to believe in the Constitution of the United States but that seem to be obsolete now just like standard English. QED
No socks is correct. Thus is the English language. But it's not that simple. What exact definition is applied to the term lens? It seems that there are multiple uses of the term. Another characteristic of the English language.
A lens could be a single piece of glass used to ignite unlucky ants. It could also be the item that snaps onto your DSLR, which is composed of multiple glass elements, I.e., lenses. It is a compound lens to be exact. But it is a singular object. Thus I submit the popular phrase "lens" is correct. You could call it a compound lens if you prefer, that would be technically correct, but photographers will think you are weird if you do, because they all know that.
Thus, in photography, "lens" is short for compound lens, meaning many lenses. It is a singular object that photographers use and love, to facilitate taking pictures.
Actually as mentioned by JD750 "Lens" in this case is a misnomer .....should be "photography lens" to be more precise!
...or... "Camera objective" ...plural of which could be debated since these are compound names .....
So to finish off I would say Lenses or bag full of lens is OK either way ! :XD:
....or let's just be snob and say Glass ! LOL!

There are plenty of Hogs that ARE or WHERE hardworking teachers, and you just slapped them all in the face.
There are still plenty of kids getting into Stanford, Harvard and Cal...., and they ALL know how to speak and spell.
There are plenty of kids in grade schools today scoring perfect 600's in Language Arts....,and they all know how to speak and spell. They come in all colors, religions and races.
This is NOT the country you knew, it belongs to those children that you say can't spell!! They will fight its wars...., they will be its president. Get over it ;-)

Just the unimportant ones like the
Merriam-Webster Dictionary! :) :) :)
You're right, Robert; I'm being disgustingly picky. Please forgive me; I just could not resist the temptation. It's just that I did a fair amount of research on the word(s) as a result of the tirades of a (I believe) FORMER member.

One lens, two lenses, although "lense" is being accepted for one item because so many people get it wrong.
