Not sure what you mean. There's a lot I don't understand. I know now I open my images in Camera Raw in PSE 15. It allows me to tweek it before I "open" the image.

I'm on the fence about upgrading from PSE15 to 19. My MacBook Pro went wonky when I upgraded to Mojave and in the end I got a new desktop and they put High Sierra back on the MacBook Pro and it seems to work fine. In the meantime, I signed up for the Photoshop subscription on my new computer before realizing the cancellation hardly makes it worth doing. I think you can upgrade PSE for $79. Now, I really don't know what to do.

I have cropped to 10 x 8 and used a high pass filter to sharpen and enhance. The ppi will have to be increased to 300 for printing.

Wow! I like what you did to it. And where do I find a "high pass filter"? I'll be using 300 for printing (resolution box I take) from now on. Thank you.

You're very welcome. Let us know how it goes. My issues with Costco (or any mass-printing place) was submitting images that were too dark and too saturated. I had to learn to adjust from optimal look on computer monitor to the printing process.

You can get the printer profile info from Costco and set up properly, but that kind of attention to detail was beyond my interest

FYI, there is a dedicated printer forum on UHH also:

Did not know that. Thanks for that info as well. Now I'm actually considering printing it out on metal. At least I will have done my part to get it right. I did notice when I brought it in before that part of it had been cut off.

I have PS Elements. Did you do any editing other than adding text? Do you want to post this file again, to this thread, with "store original" box checked? Do not reduce the file size. If you didn't crop, it should be 4000x3000 pixels. Or if you did crop to fit 8x10 aspect, it will be a little smaller.

If you cropped, what value did you place in the ppi box when selecting the crop tool or pre-set for 8x10? 300 ppi?

I will attach the original. I didn't add anything to any ppi box. I so seldom print anything, but would like to do more so any help is appreciated. Not sure about cropping the original, since I took it so long ago.

Did you print yourself, or if not, where did you send it/take it? Did you set resolution to 300 ppi?

If you wish to edit the image for more detail or sharpness, let us know what processing software you have and how experienced you are. Thanks!

I brought my flash drive to Costco. I don't think I can print an 8 x10 on my printer (4x6 yes). I have some experience with PSE-15 and am new to Photoshop.

I could use some help in printing a photo from a shot I took with my SX-50. (12 meg. I think). I can put the image in either PSE-15 or Photoshop.
The goal is to print an 8 x 10 of it for a friend. I've added some text, but when I had it initially printed, it came out "soft". Made me wonder if I needed to plug in some numbers somewhere in the processing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone.

I was told, and it seems to be true, that the 18-55mm lens that comes with the T3i is not adequate for pictures with distant backgrounds. I am planning on purchasing the Canon T7i and wonder if the Canon lens that comes with it is better than the one for the T3i. I am thinking of getting a Tamron 70-300mm lens as well. I am sure that one is better over all. But of course is a telephoto.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I upgraded my T3i to the 77D and love it. I also invested in a Tamron 18-400 for my trip out West and Alaskan cruise. I like the fact that I don’t have to switch lens very often. For me, it’s a great combo. I especially like how easy it is to change the settings on the 77D.

taj334: I have the same vintage (late 2012) MBP and thought I'd drop a note to let you (and others) know I recently installed PSE 2019 on it- (operating under Mojave, current), and I am experiencing no problems. There might well indeed be Mojave incompatibilities with PSE 15- I don't know, but I just wanted to let you know you needn't be scared-off of *newer* version of PSE (2019) AND running Mojave on your year/model MBP. It would be a shame to have PSE15 dictate/relegate you to High Sierra. (I'm also going to propose that your Apple "technician" took an easy road, and that your problem could have been solved without pushing you back to High Sierra- but then you get into the "well call adobe" syndrome- good luck with that one :>)
Our MBPs are the very oldest that can run Mojave; I have had no problems whatsoever. Happy shooting.

Thanks duck72. You are so right. I just got off the phone with Apple again, and their response was that perhaps it was the 2015 version of PSE that is not "playing nice" with Mojave. With more investigation into PSE-15 and Mojave I learned that it works fine in the organizer, but cuts off the Editor bottom and whole right side. So, yes, it is an Adobe issue. Now I'm debating on whether or not to keep this 27" iMac. Meantime, I was on hold with Adobe for over 45 minutes yesterday regarding this problem. I'm very grateful for your input and may just go ahead and get the 2019 version of PSE and "get on with it".

Hi, I just went through a major issue with my computer and PSE15. It seems my late 2012 Mac Book Pro does not play nice with PSE 15 and Mojave. Long story short; after checking the drive, the cable to the motherboard and anything else Apple could do, they erased everything and sent the computer back to High Sierra. I was able to download all my pics, thankfully, from the Cloud. I hope this isn't what you're going through, but maybe my story will be helpful. Best of luck.

I really think you will appreciate the large screen and comfort of using an I-Mac desktop. I bought a refurbished one from Apple and it came with 8 gigs of memory and that was five, trouble free and productive years ago. I use it for all my photo work, plus academic work for the classes I teach. It is great! I back it up with a Seagate external hard drive with a 3 terabyte capacity. It is a fine setup and I recommend you taking a look at getting a refurbished one from Apple. Mine cost me right at a thousand and came with a CD reader.

Thank you for your input. A refurbished I-Mac may be the ticket. Now I hook my laptop to a larger monitor so I can better see things. It’s not the best set up.

Make an appointment at an Apple Store. Take your 5-year-old MacBook Pro with you. I've never been disappointed by an Apple Store.

Thanks for all the input from everyone. It has been very helpful. There’s a lot to consider. I’m just looking forward to “playing” with my photos again.
After 2 1/2 hrs on the phone with Apple, I’m taking it in tomorrow. Will see if it makes sense to get the SSD or should I go ahead and upgrade now. Yes, I’ll take what they say with a grain of sand knowing they would love to have me get a whole new set up.

What does, "bit the dust mean"? As extreme as the hard drive won't spin, or something more like the operating system won't execute?
With either one a new hard drive is less than $100.
It it's the latter you can get the new hard drive and reload the operating system and you're good to go. Then you can get a case for the old drive that will let you hook it up as a secondary drive and download all you're photos and stuff off it. They're less than $20. Moving the programs is a bit more hassle and requires some technical expertise but it can be done.

I tried to run Photoshop Elements and all it wanted to do was spin that rainbow disk. Everything else seems to be very slow too. I took it to a computer store ( I live on Long Island) and he said it would cost $220 to repair it. Since it’s five years old I thought I might just as well put it towards a new one. Thanks for your suggestions. Hard drives probably don’t cost more than $100. Good to know.

You have a lot of options, if you want to stick with a MacBook Pro.

One option is replacing the hard drive in your existing computer with a greater capacity hard drive or an SSD. If you are the least bit handy with tools, and you have fine motor skills (dexterity), well-corrected close vision, and patience, AND can follow instructions to the letter, this would be the approach I would take. At least, you should consider exploring it.

Other World Computing, AKA OWC or http://www.macsales.com, has all sorts of options you might choose. They also have SUPERB, free installation instruction videos, and kits with all the tools and parts you might need to crack the case and swap components. Another great source is http://www.ifixit.com.

Depending upon the exact make and model of your Mac, your options may be quite attractive. I recently upgraded my iMac with double the RAM and an SSD with twice the storage space. This was a job Apple says can't be done by users, but OWC's instructions and parts kits made it possible. It was slow going, and a bit tricky, but TOTALLY worth it.

If you take this route, you can restore your last backup of the old drive to the new one. The path I would take is to format the new drive and install a virgin system 10.14.3 on it. OWC has instructions for that. Once you have the new system (or a new computer), you can use the Migration Assistant Utility in Mac OS to move your old User Profile (and all your data) from the backup to the new drive or Mac. In my case, building a new system with all virgin software installations took about a day and a half. But now, my computer SCREAMS. The extra RAM and the SSD make a tremendous difference.

OWC and many other Internet retailers sell used Macs. These are usually tested, reconditioned, and may be upgraded to your specifications. I bought two 2012 MacBook Pros from OWC for my twins a few years ago, and they still work flawlessly, despite rough handling by college students.

New MacBook Pros are expensive, but if you want to keep a machine for 5-7 years, may be your best choice. You probably don't need the high end, loaded models, but bear in mind that the LATEST MacBook Pros are either not upgradable at all, or only partially upgradable, so you want to get all the SSD drive space and RAM you can afford, right up front. The 13" models are more limited than the 15" models, but the 15" models are much more expensive.

Wow Bill! Wish I had your expertise. I don’t quite have the confidence to build my own, but thanks for your input. Appreciated.
