Just recently upgraded to a 70-200 2.8 ii so I'm looking to sell my 70-300 IS. I bought this lens three years ago for a trip to London and Italy and it has barely been used since. Shows no real signs of wear and functions like it is still brand new. Sells for $650 brand new and anywhere from $400 to $450 used at Adorama. Will sell for $400. See links below for reviews of this lens.

I thought I had my G.A.S. under control until I went searching for printers. I just received my Epson 3880 from B&H on Tuesday. Who knows what is next. It just happens so fast. Kinda like a snake bite but it doesn't hurt as much.

Yup, I'm suffering from this terrible affliction myself. I just placed my order for a canon 70-200 2.8 IS on Friday. Really second guessing my decision to not pay for expedited shipping now. Friday can't get here soon enough!!

there are ample tools in LR to backup catalogs and smart previews, merge them copy one to another etc. No need to worry.. just make sure that you store your catalog on your own drive and that you back it up regularly.

Thanks!!

i use the lr and photoshop cc combo which includes a few other products as well like bridge, camera raw of course, etc.. It works the same as if you own it. You store your images where you want them. I store mine on my hard drive.. as an option you can store online. They do "check" your machine to a) make sure you are paid up and that you are following the license agreement.. which I believe allows you to install on multiple machines ie a desktop and a laptop but only use one at a time. There is a newly released feature that provides lr on an ipad (I have an android tablet) so I haven't been able to try this. I know you can download photos from your camera to the ipad and access and even do some PP on the ipad. Rumor is they will be releasing an android version at some point. I've been using this for a few months now and have received at least 2 updates / new features and camera raw update already. So as long as they keep the price point at $10 per month... I'm good with it. The main issue, is that if you let it expire you no longer would have access to your image pp modifications. So make sure you backup your catalog and smart previews (LR) so that if downline you choose to buy vs rent you can recover your pp updates in LR. similiarly if you save psd files in photoshop You should be able to use a purchased copy of PS if you choose not to rent.

Looking for clarification please? If I currently use LR5 for my pp what happes to my catalog if I upgrade to CC? Will CC use my current catalog or will it create a new catalog for any changes that I make in CC? If it creates a new catalog would I still be able to retain those changes in my current version of LR5 down the road if I decide to no longer use CC? If so, and CC does create a new catalog can you have more than one catalog in LR?

I'm still waiting to hear what this means in terms of price discounts.
For instance there was a deal this week for a new 5D MKIII body for $2560 with free shipping.
That's less then Canon Direct charges for a refurb.

So what does the employee discount get ya?

Finally got logged on to the website yesterday and a 5D mark iii body directly from canon is $2,900.00. The 70-200 2.8 IS I'm looking to pick up is $2,100.00. The only thing I don't know right now is whether or not I still get to take advantage of the rebates that are going on right now. If so, that means I can pick up the lens for $1,800.00. Not bad if you ask me.

I agree. I use Lynda.com daily.

For you guys who use Lynda.com have you ever checked out Scott Kelby's site. It looks like the subscriptions cost about the same amount. Just wondering if one is better than the other. So far, I've been pleased with the content on Kelby's site.

Just found to today that as a perk for working for the company I work for that I get to participate in Canon's employee purchase program. My wife and my wallet are not gong to like this at all.

Does anyone know if installing the most recent version of Photoshop creative cloud will interfere with my current install of CS5? I'm thinking I might want to go ahead and subscribe while the price is still $9.99 in the event that they raise the prices sometime soon. I'm okay with the the $9.99 per month for as long as they offer it, but I want to make sure that if and when they increase the price I will still have my untouched version of CS5 to fallback on.

70-200 L either 2.8 IS or non-IS or F4 are all great lens and with proper light all have excellent IQ. You have an excellent camera (same as what I have) and the camera itself works wonders in lower light situations so do not be afraid of the F4. I personally have the 700-200 2.8L and also the 100-400L, I find that I consistently grab the 100-400L more often because of the extra reach (being the 5D3 is a full frame). IQ on the 100-400L is absolutely great but if there is a shot that I absolutely need to turn out well, well then I grab the 70-200L. It is almost impossible to shot a bad shot with it, the only issue is it weighs a ton. My friend has the F4 and its weight is just about perfect and like I said image quality is exactly what one would expect from an "L" lens.

If I was to do it over I think I would go with the F4 or 2.8 non-IS just because of the weight difference. I guess it all depends on what you want to use it for and for how long you will be holding the equipment at one time.

You ask about "L" lens vs other brands. "L" lens are made specifically for the Canon camera by the people who make the Canon camera, they are the experts. The lenses cost more simply because they are worth it.

Your 5D3 cost a small fortune why would you even consider lowering its superior quality but trying to save a few bucks? You did not buy your camera to take nice shots, or good enough shots, you bought it to take the best shot. Am I right?

You are correct! Image quality is paramount. Just trying to be open minded in case there is anything else out there that might rival the IQ of the "L"s.

Two more questions.
1) Are the 70-200 f2.8 and f4 comparable in terms of image quality? Obviously, the 2.8 is the faster better lens for low light but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the smaller and lighter feel of the f4.

2) Are the canon lenses really that much better than the comparable focal lengths offered by the other manufacturers. I've never gone this route but I am open to it if it makes sense.

Just recently upgraded from a 7D to a 5D mark iii. Also picked up the 24-70 2.8 mark ii and kept my 50mm 1.4 as I take a lot of indoor shots of kids.

Just sold the 7D and my 17-55 2.8 on eBay so I have a little more cash burning a hole in my pocket. Would like to go ahead and finish out the focal range so I'm interested to hear what you folks might have to say about what I should be looking at for the wider and longer ends. I'll probably go longer first and then wider later depending upon how much I spend on the longer zoom.

Forgot to mention that I too have the 24-70 mark ii and the combination of these two are unbeatable.
