When we lived in our old house we had a covered patio between the back of the house and the workshop. I had humming bird feeders hanging on both of the open ends. We had a crawfish boil with a lot of our family and friends on that patio. The hummers didn't appreciate us being there and kept dive bombing us and squeaking. I guess we were too clove to their food and they didn't want any crawfish.

thank you guts! they do have catnip...makes him act kind of crazy sometimes. :-D

We had a blind cat and he could find catnip anyplace. I tried to grow some and he rolled all over the plant. I tried hiding the plant with a bunch of other potted plants to no avail. Blind as a bat he made it through the maze on smell.

Four years ago we stayed at a campground that had a lot of osprey in the trees nearby. They used to fire a shotgun not at them but the noise kept them from nesting in their trees. Seems the poop was killing their trees.

I had that but returned it for the larger 350, which is able to carry a bit more. It's a very nice bag, with a section at the top for lunch, a shirt, or whatever. There are lots of compartments, and the dividers can be moved around easily. I'm satisfied with it.

I also have the 350 and love it. I have enough room to put some of the things I usually carry in my purse. That top section is for the purse things I want to take which includes aspirin for the aches and pains.

Yah...I think the dancing was a bad idea....just not many parts for a dancing raccoon!!

Maybe you should come over to south Louisiana and see if they can use a dancing raccoon here. Saw a new yellow sign just today. This one had Jones written on it. Sometimes what they have on them is a mystery to me.

He is the cutest polar bear I have ever seen! Sorry to hear you are not well, keep warm and have plenty hot toddies. :-)

Oh my goodness your mention of hot toddies brought back memories. When hubby and I were newlyweds he came down with a bad cold. Someone told me to fix him a hot toddy and get the room really warm. Well I didn't stop the hot toddies with one. I got him drunk. He felt better after that. That was about 49 years ago.

Hope you feel better, James.

We have learned that when you see little yellow signs along the side of the roads it means that they are shooting something. They have one for crew parking and another for where they are working. At least once a month we see new sign, who knows how many we miss. Sometimes they are on roads that just locals use. On Tuesday I watch NCIS New Orleans, but I spend most of the time trying to figure out where the scenes were shot.

My first car was a Metropolitan. I think it was a 1959. My parents bought it new and my dad used it for work. Christmas 1962 they gave it to me. I had more fun in that car. It was a 2 seater but one time I had 5 girlfriends plus me driving in it. I used to roller skate and one night when I went out to get in my car to go home my car was gone. My boyfriend and a few of his friends thought it would be funny to pick it up and move it to the back of the parking lot. Another time when I was going home from work the horn started blowing and it wouldn't stop. I drove home with the horn blaring. When I got home my daddy wasn't home so I had to get the man across the street to come help. He pulled a wire and that was the end of that.
I could put $2.00 of gas and run for 2 weeks.

Just because you weren't drinking doesn't mean you weren't obnoxious to those around you. Too bad you had to be told "several times" and didn't get the message after the first one or two times.

There was no one close enough, except this one woman, to be offended by our talking and laughing. She was a volunteer and probably shouldn't have been near a large group. My point was that there are different types of parades and different types of people attending the parades. My sons were in the their high schools band and one year the band was invited to be in macy's parade. They were shocked that there is a rehearsal for the parade and that the people just stood still and watched the parade. They were also surprised by how short the parade is. These were boys that had grownup watching and marching in mardi gras parades. Some of the mardi gras parades are over 5 miles long. They quickly learned where to put tape to avoid getting blisters and that included their hands in some cases.

The three best places to get good parade shots are at the beginning, the end and to a much lesser degree, the reviewing stands. The beginning and end provide more personal and intimate opportunities to document individual stories, and the reviewing stands with a longer lens will provide some nice shots of the pagentry.

I was born and raised in New Orleans and my children were born and raised near New Orleans. I know Mardi Gras parades from all different angles. I have a picture of me up on my daddy's shoulders so I could see the parade. I was 3 then. I carried a 10 foot ladder with a seat attached for my 2 boys to sit on and watch the parade. Had to hold on to that ladder to make sure that no one pushed it over. Hubby was working so I had no help. When the boys were old enough we joined a Mardi Gras club and we paraded Mardi Gras day behind REX. Wow, that was a great experience. We would always do pictures before the parade started. We weren't exhausted at the lineup place yet. We were up and at it at 4 AM loading all of our throws, food and drinks onto the float. Then everyone had to get in position. If you are down on the ground at the Mardi Gras parades you probably won't get any good pictures. Too many people moving around and trying to catch something. I've been to parades where I had access to reviewing stands. You should be able to get good pictures there. We haven't been to any Mardi Gras parades in recent years even though hubby and I met at a Mardi Gras parade 50 years ago. We have been to parades in other places and it feels strange to just sit or stand and watch. A few years ago we went to the Calgary Stampede with a pretty large group and we had seats in a reviewing stand. Well there were several couples from the New Orleans area and we started having a good old time. Lots of laughing and talking loud and it kind of spread to the rest of the group. We were told we were making too much noise and we should quiet down. This happen several more times. Well I did get some good pictures, but got the feeling that we weren't supposed to have fun. When we tell that story to friends who are used to Mardi Gras they think it is so funny. We were having a good time and no one had been drinking that I know of. I guess every place is different.
