This not exactly a quick reply, but, I'm in the mood.
First year in college, Fall of 1968. Bought my first car, a 1958 DeSoto Firesweep, $150.00. Had a push button transmission (on the dash) and the rear view mirror was also mounted in the center ON the dash. The problem with that brilliant design is that if my date was sitting next to me, she had to duck down in order for me to change lanes.

I spent all of my money on a lift kit and some used Micky Thompson mags. Three matched. At least it looked good on my side. Did I say it had massive fins?

The car, however, had a quirky habit. It would frequently stop running if it was raining. This May also be because I usually could only afford to put in $2.00 worth of gas and gas gauge indicator was stuck on empty. Great.

I live in the Pacific Northwest.

The only time it doesn't rain is August 8-9, also known as summer. Even then, it it is usually cloudy and overcast. Sometimes we just skip it and move into The Rainy Season.

So, a month or so after I bought car, I was on my way home from work, 5-Midnight. Started to rain. Naturally, the engine decides to quit. I coast thru the intersection only to stop in front of an all night neighborhood grocery. Lock the car. Walk 2 miles to home. Call a friend in the morning to tow the car with a rope we always tied to the bumper of his 1964 Valiant.

The DeSoto is gone. During the night the owner had the car towed. He relied on that one spot I stalled in for customers to dash in for beer and smokes. Although upsetting, I saw his point.

That was it. Sold it back to the guy I bought it from. He missed it. Got my $150 back and kept the memories.

Think of any sitting POTUS that tried "to make things better" by being "insensitive" during racial marches and r**ts. He talks about being in a tux in a restaurant and someone asked him to get coffee because, in his humble opinion, he was black and well dressed.

Ok. So waiters wear tuxes and they stand around a lot. Waiters get coffee. Race has nothing to do with this. But, in our current situation this is such a helpful story. Why now? Is this leadership or is it, something else? Just askin'.

Love the faces and the play of the light. Like others, IMHO I would have selected a solid background, old fence, brick wall, etc. score: 8-9 good job.

Was planning a trip and thought I'd give the battery a full charge. However, for the first time, the camera refuses to fire up.

I called the Nikon 1800 and they want it back. No diagnosis on the phone, kind of like your doctor's office. So before I jump off the deep end...should I just buy a new battery?

I have taken it to Alaska during the winter in search of the Northern Lights. Maybe that compromised it? You know the 20- 30 BELOW zero?

Anyone have any ideas on the best course to take? Is it even worth trying? Thanks.

PS
What are the chances this a good enough excuse to justify a whole new rig? She's going to ask.
