Hey all,

One of my favorite images in recent memory is this one of Kirkjufellsfoss in Iceland on the Snaefellsnes peninsula near the town of Grundarfjadour. We arrived at the waterfall the day before but the weather was awful and the trail to the waterfall was under about 4 ft. of water. We came back the next day to partly cloudy skies and the trail was bone dry, apparently the tide was in while we were there the day before. This is one of the more recognizable locations in Iceland and it was a dream to photograph but all dreams must come to an end. I wrote about it on my blog, I highly suggest reading part 1 then reading part 2 which is linked in the blog. Without a doubt, one of the wildest things to ever happen to me and makes this photo beyond special for me.

Camera settings were: Canon 5D Mk. III, 16-35mm f/4 lens, 10x ND filter.

Honestly, you can get a pretty solid ballhead from Benro on Amazon for just over $100. I have one and I like it a lot, works great with my L-plates, holds up 20lb. too.

Hi Christy, I believe what you're looking for is a watermark. Those can be easily created in a photo editing program like Lightroom if you have availability to that or there are digital services like DigiMarc which will do the same thing. There are also apps available for iOS (I don't have have an Android phone so I have no way of knowing what's available there).

Hope that's helpful!

Thank you. I'm not trying to criticise your excellent blog, but only to offer help.

Honestly, you're doing me a favor, I don't have anyone to proofread my blogs beforehand so I'm kind of flying blind when I post. I know I make grammar mistakes all the time, Grammarly doesn't catch all of them.

Sorry, I meant "for Rick and ME."

More difficult that it looks eh? ;)

Don't worry about being a dick, I won't get my feelings hurt and I respond well to that type of critique. Already made the changes you highlighted good sir!

I just took a quick breeze through on your blog. Will go back when I get off work and have more time. Definitely subscribed. Thanks for the post or I never would have found you. I have a question about the pictures you sell. You give two options for medium metal or paper. If I get the paper version will it simply be a print rolled up in a tube or do you do some mounting like on acrylic ? I have bought a few prints from different photographers and I really like the look of the acrylic mount with no frame, just floating on the wall. Can’t wait to read more later tonight.

Hi Nelson,

Thank you for the comment too. Regarding pictures that I sell, yes the paper option is printed on paper. I do offer acrylic mounts, I agree they look incredible and I just started working with a company who specializes in those prints last week. My site is through Squarespace and they don't make it easy to do bulk changes to products, so if there is a photo that you'd be interested in please let me know and I can get you a price if it's not listed. Thanks again!

Hello 'ryanwrightphoto'. I was interested to see your site but I found it difficult to read the black typeface on the blogs. It seems to me a heavier weight or bolder font would be easier to read.
Just my opinion.
Liked what you've done, though, and was grateful for the insights on the waterfalls in Iceland. I'll be traveling there in July.
Good luck with your endeavor.
Larry

Hi Larry, thanks for the comment! You bring up a good point about the typeface, I'll consider it.

You're going to have an incredible time in Iceland, it's a magical place. Keep in mind the weather and the crowds, but you'll have so much fun. Where are you planning on traveling, the whole Ring Road or just certain parts?

In your original post, I couldn't actually see what the photo was so I appreciated the lighter version that you posted. That being said, I didn't find anything for my eye to land on.

Thank you for looking at the site and giving feedback. I hear you on using LR to edit and not foraying into Photoshop, LR is much more accessible. It's hard to justify the cost of PS too if LR will give just as good of results. I've found that PS and the more in-depth I've gone, the better my images have turned out. My two cents. Thank you again for the feedback!

Hello all, it's been a long while since I last posted. I went through a "down" period with my photography as my life demanded attention in other areas.

I've been getting back into the swing of blogging and trying to write useful and/or helpful blogs, rather than just the "oh look a pretty picture" ones that I have in the past. Frankly, I'm not very good at writing most days. If any of you would be willing to give me feedback on my blog, read one or two posts, and give me some constructive feedback I'd be most grateful. I want to contribute more to the photo community as a whole and I'm definitely still trying to "find my voice". If you had feedback on the site as a whole, I'd be grateful too.

Anyone up for that?

Great photo but it must be fake because there is a clear sky in Portland and we all know there is permanent cloud cloud ;)

But seriously, that is a great photo of downtown PDX and Mt. Hood. I've been to Portland four times but I've only seen Ht. Hood once. An amazing sight to see.

Thank you everyone! I'm meeting with a client this weekend to discuss getting a large metal print made of this image!
