If you use either of these two software items with your photos, you should be aware of what I just discovered. If you purchase a photologo from this company and have purchased photopolish it allows you to bulk add your logo to your photos. You are only allowed to download photopolish to a total of 3 computers. After purchasing Photopolish, I downloaded it to two of my computers - both of which replaced last month with a new iMac and a new Dell laptop. When I began reinstalling my software on these two computers I was unable to re-install Photopolish. I contacted the Company I was told via email support that I had used up my 3 installs and would have to repurchase the software but they would give me a 10% discount as a previous owner. This policy appears to me to be very unfair. This policy would also apply if you suffered a computer crash and needed to rebuild your installed software. I re-installed Quicken, Quickbooks and MS Office among other programs I own without any problems whatsoever! I purchased my first computer over 40 years ago and have purchased numerous software programs and have NEVER encountered a company with such a policy. I explained to the company that these were replacement computers and I was not trying to install their software on additional computers. I even offered to send copies of my purchase receipts to prove this but they did not respond to me at all. This is an overseas company but my initial research determined that they were a reliable company with a product of value to photographers. I have been proven wrong and just wanted to let other UHH's of this terrible policy and that you should all be informed of this before purchasing or re-installing their software. It is not expensive software by no means but to remain a viable and honest Company, they should offer some way of re-installing their software. To limit installation to 3 computers (I only installed on 2) with no policy to re-install on new computers or computers that have crashed is unacceptable and highly dishonest. Buyer Beware! Thanks for letting me Rant!

Going to Italy in early March and was looking for a device like this for travel. I was wondering if anyone owns this or could recommend something similar. Thank you for your advice.

My guess here is that those that do not like Apple, have never owned their stock. Also, can you complain about the price of a Mac when some are paying $3-6K for a camera?

Google photos is one of the best things to happen to digital photography. It will backup all the photos on your phone and your computer if you learn how to use it and adjust the settings. The only limitation is the free vs the paid amount of storage. It is ideal for those that complain they have 3000 photos on their phone don’t know what to do with them. Far better than iCloud. I have numerous albums on Google Photos and I can share by giving access to specific albums!

It’s not that paying taxes is bad, it’s how the i***ts that receive them spend them - like those that Obama gave to Solindra and they duped the taxpayer. .... and don’t get me started on General Motors!

Luminar can’t even roll out an update without screwing things up. Pitch it!

As I stated before, I'm a big fan of free open source software.

But I wanted to give a try on commercial software, so I tested and even purchased some products in the last couple of months.

Based on that, I'd like to share my experience.

1) Lightroom Classic CC / Photoshop CC

Right, It is a solid package but I felt it somewhat "domodeè": You get Lightroom, which is pretty fast, but it lacks many modern editing features like masks, layers and so on. The main idea is that you do basic developing and then go to Photoshop for some of the shots.

As an amateur photograph with THREE kids and THREE jobs, I don't have the time for that, so I let the try time wear off, and uninstalled the software.

2) Luminar 3

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE.

REALLY, DON'T

EVER

It is buggy, very buggy... what is worst, Skylum believes that bugs are "features".

For example: lens correction doesn't work for Sony cameras, geometric transformations (horizontal level, perspective, etc.) don't affect masks (WHAA...!?), switching from a photograph to the next can take MINUTES, RAM can get exhausted and the whole PC can crash, etc.

I couldn't finish a single workflow... it crashes, hangs, freezes, goes to sleep, does strange things, etc.

Maybe, in a couple of years, Skylum will succeed in making work Luminar just right... or not.

3) ON1 2019.2

This package is great! It has everything you could want: layers, masks, AI, masks, preset, a damn good DAM, HDR merge, panorama merge, focus stacking... etc., etc., etc.

And etc.

And then, etc.

Only drawback I've found: it's a little slow... it takes about 2 - 3 seconds to switch photos. (Note: I have a high end engineering workstation with an i7-7200 CPU, 32 GB GDDR3 RAM, 2 TB SSD and a nVidia GTX 1060 GPU)

Nevertheless I've purchased ON1, and I'll be using it for most of my workflow.

Price: (limited time) $69 for 5 PC.

4) Capture One Pro 12

This software is FAAST!

Let me rephrase that... it is GODDAM F*K#NG FAA-AST !!!

I've found my self switching photos from a folder and doing micro adjustments to give them the same look, and there is no delay... NONE WHATSOEVER It is so natural that I even noticed that I was going back and forth with the photos from the same shootout.

As a test, I've done a 200+ photos PP (culling, adjusting, cropping, exporting) in less than ONE hour!

The export quality is also excellent.

Also the color adjustment features are unique.

Drawback: the DAM lacks HDR, Pano, etc...

I've also purchased this software, because of it sheer performance and color adjustment features!!

Tip: the Capture ONE Pro 12 for Sony is only for $109 for a limited time.

So from now on:

a) I'm using ON1 when I need to merge shots (HDR, Pano, etc.) and do fancy filter effects.
b) I'm, using Capture One when I want to develop develop a shootout very quickly with excellent results.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

The last Luminar update was a boondoggle and failed to install. Had to uninstall and reinstall to get a good update. They never addressed this problem until several days after the update. The process caused all my presets to disappear and have not bothered to try to fix this problem. My emails to customer support went unanswered for several days then their response did not address my pre-set problems. In my opinion, if a software company does not have good customer support the software is worthless!
