Thank you for the reply and comments.
The album is surely one of my favorites.

Happy New Year!
Mark

Two of my favorites are the Trio albums Linda did with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris. I don't mean to put down the other two in any way but I've always thought that Linda's voice stood out because of the depth and power of it. All three harmonized beautifully.

I would have loved to have heard Linda Ronstadt with the Stone Poneys live, at the Troubadour in L.A..

So many great artists from the 1960s and '70s made it there. Many of them lived in Laurel Canyon, the story of which has been documented to death on YouTube and elsewhere by many journalists. It's a bizarre tale of the heydays of rock. But it includes a lot of players from the jazz, blues, and classical scenes as well.

The storys of the Troubadour are fascinating. I was never there because I did not live in the LA area but I had a woman friend (now deceased unfortunately) who waitressed there and a male friend who was there often and they told many stories about it. If I recall correctlhy, Linda recruited four guys she met there to back her up on her next tour and after the tour they became the Eaglesl As already stated, the list of those who performed there is absolutely incredible.

If you have not listened to this collaboration of her and Nelson Riddle's Orchestra, you have missed one of the best! (in my opinion!)

For some reason, a war movie scene popped in my head and I can't for the life of me think of what it was...I've only seen it once. It was about a platoon of soldiers in (Viet Nam???) who, for entertainment started playing soccer among themselves and were convinced by military brass to become a competitive team, playing the locals (or other military). In the final scene or two the platoon was offered to be sent back to the States if they lost the final match against the local team and decided that becoming soccer champions in the war country was more important to their psyche and pride than going home before their official tour of duty was over.

Quite a story. I haven't seen that one and will have to do so. I had a similar expirience a few days ago when "A Bridge Too Far' popped up on my TV for no known reason. I believe that one is considered one of the better war movies ever made and the cast is awesome. It's been many years since I have seen it but will do so soon and also the one described above which is very timely because of the recent World Cup. Thanks for posting it.

It's been 20 years since I was in Costa Rica (Honeymoon) but spent two weeks there then and I assume not much has changed. Both coasts have a lot scenic areas. Back then the Atlantic coast wasn't much visited because of fears of crime (apparently greatly overexaggerated) but we had no problems there. Lots of palm tree lined beaches. The volcanos were interesting as was a visit to a coffee plantation. The people were vary nice and helpful everywhere.

I'll agree with all of that.

Epsons produce incredible results, but they thrive on constant HARD use. They do not like to sit. More correctly, the INK does not sit well. Pigment settling is what causes head clogs. The pigment settles in the lines, the solvent dries out, and clogs happen.

The other thing that happens with Epson is when you switch from Epson ink to some third party inks, a precipitate forms in the lines to the heads and in the heads themselves. It is like superglue! DO NOT EVER run third party ink in an Epson after running Epson ink in it. It WILL clog. The only times we had a problem with clogging in the lab were after a week shutdown, and when the guy who ran the large format print area for me ordered some off-brand ink. $1730 later, we had new heads in the 9600... along with new ink cartridges and new feed lines to the print heads. When we shut down for a week, we did have to run a head cleaning routine or two to get things clear again.

Excellent information. I alway use Epson ink with my two Epson printers for those reasons. Purchased from Amazon at good pricing,.

I'm looking for simple photo editing software. I don't want just auto fix, but sw like photoshop is way beyond what I want or need. I expect to pay for it, e.g., no just freebies I used to have really good sw for my interest and abilities but those no longer work with MS 11.

If this has been addressed in other discussions, would appreciate direction on where to view them.

Thank you.

I found Affinity Photo to be the easiest to learn and use of several programs that I tried. It is also economical with a one time fee (not certain exactly what it is now) and it has a free trial period. Faststone had been mentioned and might meet your needs and is certainly easy to use. Keep in mind that the Adobe subscription programs are $120 per year and although you said you expect to pay do you want to pay that much?? But Lightroom and Elements are good (Elements is not by subscription, at least last I knw, but if I recall correctly there are yearly upgrade fees). I've been through the same situation as you although it was quite some time back, and hope this is of some help. There are lots of good programs out there for you, some easier to learn than others.

For what it’s worth, when I read bout this subject regarding Epson Printers, I have come to this conclusion. The overwhelming majority of the problems discussed on here involve Epson printers. I have owned several Epson Printers over the past 10-15 years and each and every one of them have had print head issues. In every case I ended up trashing the printer.
I have owned a Canon Pro 100 for 6+ years and (knock on wood) have never had an issue. It is not unusual for me to not use this printer for 30-40 days at a time, and still it prints perfect prints each and every time when turned on.
Unless you look forward to posting printer issues on this forum, then I would suggest seriously looking at a Canon Printer.

Obviously this is a subject where "different folks have different strokes," using an old quote from the hippie era. My experience, and the experience of some others who have posted, is the opposite. We have had major problems with Canon printers. The Pro 100 I had developed a print head that was unsalvageble and rather than buy a new one I switched to an Epson and have had no problems. And the Canon wasn't very old. It is clear that either brand can have problems and which brand has the most problems is unclear but because of my experience my recommendation is the opposite of that above. And another point - the IQ on the Epson's output is considerably better than that of the Pro 100's was and it is easier to use. I know the Pro 100 has been replaced and perhaps the newer models are better. But another old expression - "To each his own." , depending on their personal experience.

<<I also recall that certain papers required a change in printer settings as well.>>

That's not bad is it? I've always assumed that matching the printer to the paper would produce better results than the same settings for all paper types. My two Epson's do that.

Guys, I am planning to buy my own printer, capable of up to 13x19. I am considering the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300. Does anyone have experience with this printer, good or bad? Any recommendations on other choices? The PRO-1000 is probably too large, heavy and expensive. What about the Epson P900?

Thanks in advance.

I recently bought an Epson XP 15000 and am very happy with it. The quality of the prints is outstanding, the price is moderate (look for deals on the internet), it prints up to 13X19 on sheet paper, 13X44 on roll paper. I'm much happier with it than I was with the Canon Pro 100 I previously used.

In my view, the main problem with the Canon Powershot is a lack of viewfinder. On a bright day, it becomes very difficult to see what you are trying to capture. I gave one to my wife and she hardly uses for that reason. For a pocket camera, I use Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII. It fits in a pocket and has a focal length 24-200 (35 mm equivalent), but is about double price of Canon Powershot.

Agree. I have the Sony RX100 VI and the IQ is outstanding for a pocketable camera, IMHO. I also use it as a backup camera to my FF DSLR for landscape photography and the results are often as good as the DSLR. Downside is the price. I found a mint used VI for $600, couldn't afford new.

I was thinking it was a female House Finch because the male has a red head and chest. However, on reseaching it a bit futher in my guides I found, and then remembered, there is a yellow head and chest male variant and that does appear to be what this one is. The sunlight does make it a difficult call.
