Great ideas. Thanks. Happy New Year. Jim.

I'll just use your list Paul, unless, of course, you insist on a citation, footnote, or end note.

So, twenty years ago I got Lasik surgery on both eyes to correct my near sightedness. The downside to the procedure is that I now deal with hallows and star bursts from on coming car headlights or reflections from highway signage. Hallows are tolerable, but headlights can be dangerous because of the starburst effect and the intensity of the light itself. I thought cataract surgery might help, but it didn't.

So, I have never heard the term used as it relates to photography, but it is probably out there, and I just haven't seen it; it's called, static photography. As I see it, it would incorporate Landscape, Architecture, and other immovable objects that are stationary just waiting to be photographed. Nothing moves...they are static. In real estate it is called fixity of location. So, this title (static photography) just groups know entities into a category that covers several well established labels. I'm not quite sure how the term would be used other than as a conversation starter, but even then it has some value and utility. Just my thought of the day.

Call it whatever you want. When you show someone a picture do you tell them how it came to be?

Yes, I do not plagiarize photography. I either took the photo, someone else took the photo, or it was generated by an outside source.

What an exciting assignment for a college level creative writing class. Write your assigned creative essay, enter the assignment into the AI program, and then read the essay to the class while showing the AI representation the generated AI essay produced. This class would have a waiting list of those who wanted to attend, would be the most talked about class on campus, and would be an exciting educational experience for the student and the professor.

So, AI seems to be creative writing with visual results

If you like the result, what’s the difference how it was made. Your 50 words created it…

So, if photographs are made with words rather than camera equipment, can it still be called photography?

I recently received notice that there are several updates for the R3. I had tried to do that one received prior but didn't know how. I decided to do it, and it actually worked pretty seamlessly. I haven't used the camera since, so I don't know if it got ruined. And I still have 6 updates to do to be totally up to date.

I'm going to be needing my GPS a lot in upcoming days, and I knew there was a map update available. I had done this several times, and although time-consuming, it was pretty simple. So I started in. It stalled at 41% transferred data, and it was taking forever. I left it to grind away overnight, and started in again the next morning when maybe my internet connection would be better. Again, it stopped at about 40%. After several attempts, I started a chat, finally getting to a real person. She was pretty good, and finally determined that the newest map was bigger than my old device could handle. I had two choices, download partial maps or use an SD card. I opted for the SD card, went and bought one, then followed the directions on how to use it. It didn't work. I can't go back to my previous map because it is now corrupted. It won't uninstall, as was suggested to me. So my device is now a piece of expensive worthless plastic! This is why I don't update my cameras! If the same thing were to happen to my camera, I'd be devastated!
I recently received notice that there are several ... (show quote)

Google Map is a free app from the app store. Just type in the address or GPS coordinates, hit the start button, and the female voice will start giving directions immediately. Used it to photograph all 89 covered bridges in Indiana.

So, In the literary world, if you submit a literary piece that you claim to be written by your own hand, but in actuality you borrowed the words from others, it is called plagiarism, and is grounds for punishment from academic dismissal to professional persecution. So now we have AI, with the ability to write novels, plays, and any sort of document we desire with virtually no repercussion for presenting it as our own effort. The needed control, as I see it, is a regulation that requires source admission with penalties for non-adherence. If the work is yours, and yours alone, declare it so. If not, identify the source. The same type of system could work for photography.

Just a note. Yes the local authorities have a ten foot EASEMENT on your property. They do not own it and it is private just so you are clear on that. I took take pictures of abandoned houses and barns in SW OHIO. I have been confronted a couple of times but the camera and smooth talking has won them over every time. We have 7 covered bridges in our county. Preble county.

Actually it is a right-a way, not an easement. Right-a-ways are accessible to the public. If you park off a roadway, you are on a right-a-way, and are not violating anyone's rights.
Ohio has the second most covered bridges in the country. Pennsylvania has the most with 200+.

Well, thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I felt it would generate a lot of comments, and it did. Most were on topic, others were contributory, and just one had anger issues.
Virtually all covered bridges in Indiana are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Covered bridges are considered historic treasures in each and every county in Indiana
Tourists, artists, school children, photographers, and others are frequent visitors of these sites.
Vehicles parked in the vicinity of covered bridges is typical, and often accommodations are made for them.
Although some property owners illegally fence off access to these sites, some find a way.

I am more concerned at being shot at Walmart, Amazon, Post Office, Church, Night Club, Elementary School, or
other public places than taking photos at a covered bridge in Indiana.

Thanks again for all the responses. I'll post some photos when I have completed this project. John

It's obvious you don't really know Linda. She was just pickin' atcha jokingly. We have a few who are a little snarky but she's not one of those.
Most of us would say just do what you know is right or what you really want to do and take a chance on the consequences. I'd say ask permission first. If granted, grab your camera and shoot!

Edit: You might even offer them a print of the photo.

First of all...I know Linda. I have private messaged her in the past and she has commented on my post at various times. When writing, always place yourself in the position of the reader, and how the reader will respond to your words, favorably or unfavorably. Linda doesn't need you to defend her...she is capable of doing that herself. By the way, when you drive up to a covered bridge in the middle of nowhere, there are no houses within miles, everything is agricultural, who's door do you knock on for permission to disregard their illegal fence????

Those of us that fly drones for photos and videos have a similar problem. MOST do not know the FAA laws that 'some' of us follow. I can fly over a house, people, cars; but I cannot stop. Only pass over; just like an aircraft, which is what the FAA calls drones. I stay around 150' to 200' high, but they think I am trying to spy on them. If I wanted to do that I would pull Google Earth and look at them. I have some great photos and videos that I could never get from the ground.

What are the "privacy" issues with drone photography. There is an expectation of privacy on your own property unless visible from a public place. Is the movement of the drone the perceived resolution to the privacy issue of a homeowner who feels invaded?
