I think that is insane. I've not ever SOLD even one print, but the fact that I "might" makes my equipment commercial? Makes absolutely no sense to me. But then again, we are talking about insurance companies and those people never make any sense to me anyway. (No offense to insurance sales people, I'm talking from personal experience with mine)

Interesting. Guess I'd better look into my home insurance policy!

Great thread! I am in the same boat. I am 54, soon 55, and REALLY want to start a photography business. Am I going to do it tomorrow? Nope, still lots of studying to do and planning etc. But will I do it? Absolutely I will! The only difference between me and the OP is that I don't have a "job" that I have to worry about leaving.

Thank you for this thread. As a total 'noob' I am sometimes afraid to post a "stupid" question. I've been on other message boards and gotten that "Do a Search" response and thought "If I new what the hell I was looking for, I would have done that first!" This has NOT happened to me here (yet) I read all of the threads that interest me or that have a title that I feel like I can learn something from. Sometimes I don't understand the answers but I keep reading and researching online and off.

Yes...probably for small things like pets/dogs cats and small objects (basket ball size or less)

I really dont' know anything about watts and how much is enough specifically but at 45.00...you won't be getting a lot of power.

have you thought about spending a "slight bit" more and getting a manual speedlight?

It's more versatile, you can take it anywhere and you can shoot it through just about anything to create soft light....

A YN560 is about 59.00 US dollars and is very powerful.

A set of cheap triggers to trigger it are about 35.00 US.

Throw in an umbrella/stand kit for 38.00 and you have all you need to make some good portraits; even human size.

A really nice one light set up for $120.00

Umbrella and stand

speedlight

In my opinion, this is much more versatile and better capability than the other rig.
Yes...probably for small things like pets/dogs cat... (show quote)

Thanks so much, I will look at the links you sent.

I apologize for hijacking the thread, however, do you think this would work for say a single subject? Like a product photo or a pet photo?
